My bath taps have been sealed off by a plumber but now he says he doesn't know what to do

My hot water tap was leaking for a while, plumber came to fix it but the taps we ordered didn't fit, the plumber said that the previous guy has put them on the wrong way round , resulting in a 6.5inch gap between them rather than the usual 6inch

He says it looks like an awful mission to get under the bath to replace the actual taps, and he set us up this temporary solution, but now he does not know what to suggest as to how we go forward

(He has not asked for any payment from us)

Anyone got any advice how we can get this back to working taps for as cheap as possible please?

If Plasterboard wall can you take out a section to gain access from the back?
If not take bath out to fix.

Don't think you have any other options

Why not fit two separate taps ?
I've had a look on Amazon but they all seem to face straight down where I need ones that face horizontally don't I? Could you suggest the search term I could use ?

I don't understand, those upstands don't look new. What was attached to them before? Please send photo of the new taps

Get some female to female adaptors, fit the cranked threaded tap/shower valve connectors, then your new tap should fit on. Bit of a contraption but then at least you can use what you have and don't need to redrill the bath

No those upstands are not new, he removed the tap/shower that was attached to them but left the stands because he couldn't get under the bath

Thanks guys, we actually sent the new taps back as the plumber said they didn't fit, just trying to work out the best way to go forward

He aint a plumber if he doesn't know what to do in that scenario and then leave you with that ridiculous debacle - he simply needs to get under the bath.

Pre drilled bath tap holes will come as 180mm centres for a standard deck or raised bath tap - those bent upstands usually bring the centres into 150mm and then a mixer/thermo bar tap can be fitted. Those upstands look almost straight and were bespoke for the tap that was previously fitted, so they will probably need to be changed but I don't see what his problem is, can he not get in under the bath? Is the bath panel tiled in? if so then it's hammer time and a new panel needed.

If he doesn't know what to do then it's time to get yourself a proper plumber.

Why can't the bath be accessed underneath ?
I've just taken the side panel off and Its accessable but it's a tight fit, just thinking whether me and my girlfriend can do this or whether we need to get a (slimmer) plumber back

There is seldom a lot of space at the bath end to replace taps ,can be quite awkward sometimes. You may or may not be able to do it yourselves....you won't know until you try !!

Yes the only way we will be able to get to it is if we can remove the sink tower but we are just trying to check with the girlfriends step dad that it is not load bearing
