Hi all, I’m sure this has been asked before, but I have 4 cable sets running from the ceiling. When I connect up, the light powers on and operates correctly, the second light powers on but doesn’t switch off.

When I’ve done this with the 3 cable system previously switch live goes into the fitting along with all neutral and the other lives go into a connector block. I’m obviously not connecting up correctly, but can anyone advise the wiring order?

Is there another light that comes on at the same time as this one?

Try that...

red dots together and not to the light

Black dots neutral

Black with red sleeve to live

If the other light (if there is one) stays on you'll have to move a red over one by one to live, trial and error until it works as it should

And obviously all the earths together.

So the other light is permanently on, I can switch this one on/off, but the other just stays on.
So you need to move one red over to the live terminal, one by one, trial and error until it works as it should

You keep mentioning 'the live'. His one red wire, to be determined by the test, needs to be tested and found, by connecting it to the black with red sleeving, which is the 'switch wire'.

The 'live terminal', is the terminal which presently has 4x red wires in it.

Or switched live, have said something wrong

OP when I say live I mean the terminal on the light fitting which is the switched live.

The reds connected together and not to the light are permanent lives.

Not sure why this really matters to you but apparently it does.

It was wrong, and a confusing explanation for the OP, that's why it was important to use the correct terms.

A strange attitude, I had already had to correct the very same wrong terminology, in my post #10. I assumed, then, you had simply mistyped, as your post #11, appeared to accept it was wrong.

Your post #12, then went on to suggest he move the red wires one at a time, from the live terminal to the live terminal, to test the result. It was nonsensical. Don't you agree?
