What Type Of Hinges Do I Need?

Hi all,

I want to put an 18mm mdf 'door' on the opening below, what type of hinges will I need so the door can sit flush with the sides?

I was thinking of putting 2 strips of mdf down the sides set back for the door to sit against and then using kitchen cabinet style hinges but wondered if there's a better way?

Kitchen ones are fine so long as you wont have kids swinging on the door.
Otherwise concealed offset hinges.

These. You need inset hinges to get the door flush and the adjustable nature of kitchen cabinet type hinges make it a lot easier to get the door to sit right in the aperture. The blum ones are only ones i've used that have the accuracy for the door to close the same way every time. All the cheaper types seem to have more play in them. The switchable soft close feature is nice too. Depending on the number of hinges on the door, you can turn the soft close on or off on each hinge to effectively give you an adjustable amount of soft close for the door.

So those ones, I take it I can set them straight into the frame that's there and then just add a mdf strip to act as a stop on the opposite side and top?

I would frame with MDF , (colour matched frame)

are you planning on adding skirting as that will affect the outcome with a 45% chamfer needed on the skirting at all hinge side joints

Thought I'd update where this got to, lined the opening with some 18mm mdf, this meant I needed to use overlay hinges rather than inset ones.

Just the skirting to sort out, undecided whether to fit it to the door itself or leave it off, I'm leaning towards off at the minute but we'll see.
