What have you been doing today?

A Blue Peter day - turning empty washing up liquid bottles, and salvaged pieces of stainless steel pipe, into automatic flower pot waterers.
I did one of them for her indoors. Used a counter ticking over at about one count a minute
Soil probe to measure dampness, comparator to give wet or dry signal, latch that,, use that signal to send a spurt of water withaquarium pump on the next tick if it 's dry. Reset the latch, let the counter tiick on and repeat. It gives the water time to soak in, and the sensor doesn't get flooded because it's not measuruing when the waters going in. A lipstick-styple power bank (18650) power bank lasted ages

I bought a Lidl rechargeable hair trimmer kit, with various depth guides. Avril makes use of that, every month or so, and manages to make a tidy enough job of it, using the cutting depth guides.
Annoying.

Bring back the '70s I say, when women were content with just a bit of lady gardening. (y)

Bittersweet day today. It was our beautiful granddaughters first birthday. She had a party in the pub in their road. Adults and children had a good time, we had the beer garden all to ourselves and we were there for most of the day. On the other hand, it would have been our Susie's 13th birthday. :( Our grandson who misses her too, keeps reminding us that she is "up there" and points to the sky.

Next door, did their half of the front hedge cut yesterday, and as the wind had declined to a soft breeze, we decided to tackle our front and side hedge this morning. The cuttings from the front more than half filled the brown garden waste bin, but luckily the collection was due, though delayed to the right time for us to need it emptying from the first fill. The remainder of the cutting, was a bit of a squeeze to then get into the brown bin. It now has to sit and wait, for 14 days, before they collect it again.

On my morning walk over our local country park, there’s a lake with an overflow that goes into a sump and then runs off when the water gets too high. There’s been no run-off for months. It’s a deep drop with about 3 inches of water in it and it’s full of tadpoles and I do mean full. Teeming with them.

Here's an earlier picture of it - there’s no green weed in there at the moment though, totally clear until you stir up the silt in the bottom of it.

I could do with some of them for my pond over the allotment so I made myself a net with a bamboo cane, a wire coat hanger and some netting and went over there tonight. I got three! Feck knows where they go of a night - they must roost up or something. I took those over to my allotment pond and I’ll have another go tomorrow morning.

We rescued an English Bull Terrier (another Daisy) a couple of years back that was going to be put to sleep as they couldn't rehome her. This morning she wouldn't get out of her bed when I called her for her biscuits. Daisy had died in her sleep. She Looked just as she did every time she slept but without the snoring.
I decided to bury her in the garden of the bungalow we will move into in September.

We own it Andy. We are in the process of renovating it and hope to move in September.

So sorry to hear that. A nice way to go though, no long suffering end for the dog and no horrible decisions to be made. Well done for giving her a nice few years to her life. RIP Daisy.

Sorry to hear that mate.

Mrs Mottie and I have to file tax returns that will include CGT on the sale of the workshop. My old accountant said he was really busy and couldn’t even let me know if he could do it for 2 or 3 weeks so I’ve been running around getting quotes from other accountancy firms. Some of those national chains or franchises want a ridiculous amount to submit them and they don’t seem very professional about it either. I found an independant accountancy firm who talked straight and weren't too silly with their pricing so I’m leaving it to them. I could have had a go myself but if I fùcked up, it would have been be an expensive fùck up and for the numbers I’m talking about, I think the tax office will more readily accept computations from an accountancy firm than an individual. That’s my hope anyway!

Fixed the slow puncture on my motor bike without taking the wheel off. Only took me about 5 weeks to get round to doing it!

Didn't do any in the 70s, surely?

I'm amazed watching Naked Attraction how many are as bald as the day they were born.

A real turn off...
