Did people forget the date ?

I doubt it, on here it has shown a total disregard for anyone who have served in the military. This includes fallen Hero's. I would rather not mention them and show more respect. Funny how others have served in the military on here isn't it and not mentioned it either. They must have the same feelings.

Who started the thread? ;-)

Respect would have been to quietly and solemnly remember them, not to hijack it for petty point-scoring.

each year, I attend a rememberence Sunday parade and ensure that my family also wears a poppy. A little known fact that I have never broadcast before is that I am actually a bugler. I also give my time to a lot of military funerals where I can.

That is awesome. Well done mate (y)

I read an article yesterday that said Churchill was strongly opposed to the D Day landings preferring to invade via Southern Europe, Italy. He was overruled and D Day went ahead, but experts who have since analysed Churchills alternative plan have come to the conclusion the war may have ended 6 months earlier had the alternative plan been adopted.

I never knew that. An interesting fact.

Says gas112 who supports Fascist Trump

You should be ashamed, those people have their lives to give you freedom and you want it given away to an Orange man baby
And you want to give our freedom back to the eu.

They gave their lives so that we all have the freedom to choose what we want to think and say.

I went to the British memorial at ver sur mer a few weeks ago. Very moving.

Ah that’s interesting, what pitch is it? Is it tunable? I believe some can only be tuned by embouchure

Sadly Im not musical but my wife is, she plays piano, saxophone, oboe, harp.

Not sure it's a fact exactly, he was strongly opposed to D Day but came around to it nearer to the time, seems there's quite a bit of debate around the issue.
Interesting nontheless.
The computer analysis lacks any insight into events happening in other theaters of war at the time, nor does it take into account the heavy rains in Italy during the Autumn of 1943 which turned the Arno into a raging torrent, the roads into a mushy quagmire and men into sodden lumps of mouldy misery.

More intriguing is an incident in 1940 when the sinking of the aircraft carrier HMS Glorious, together with her escorting destroyers Ardent and Acasta, cost the lives of 1,519 men and brought the Norwegian campaign to a humiliating end. Claims that the aircraft carrier was engaged in a secret mission on the orders of the Prime Minister, “Operation Paul”, a bold plan to win the war by cutting Germany off from its most vital strategic supplies: Swedish iron ore. Churchill had tried unsuccessfully to gain Cabinet approval for “Project Catherine”: a plan to send a British task force into the Baltic Sea to sever the German supply line to Sweden, but there's credible evidence the aircraft carrier may have been part of a plan to prevent the vital ore falling into Nazi hands on a later expedition that was ultimately thwarted by the Scharnhorst and Gneisenau.
