How to decorate between doorframe and wall?

Hi,

A couple of doors in my house look like this:

I am painting rooms and not sure what to do to make these look okay? I can see old bits of plaster and wallpaper in the gaps and then towards the top I can't do anything because it becomes too thin.

Ideally looking for a cheap and easy method to make this look better.

Either fill the gap with caulk, or fit some timber quadrant, pinned in place, to hide it.

Thanks, i don't think caulk would work as it keeps getting wider towards the bottom and it much be an inch wide there.

Not sure what you mean about the timber quadrant, wouldn't that make that side of the doorframe stick out compared the rest?
