You were given 24 hours on that thread.
So I quoted a post that stretched the truth and I edited it so it was more accurate.

My posted confirmed I had edited the quoted post - so nothing misleading

Now I’m locked out with no right to reply

Odd to say the VERY least

If you are falsely quoted, you should report it. It is not a rare occurrence.
Some seem to get away with it.

@Murdochcat Which thread? I think I may have seen it but have forgotten what you did.

Maybe just take it as a friendly warning to amend your approach: Quote their words verbatim and present your own version underneath

You aren't banned, so it's just a nudge.. Moderating this place is probably beyond a full time job; transgressions are bound to elicit a poke with a short sharp stick from time to time

Altering quotes.

Oh that old chestnut

Never done it ever every quote I have ever put up is in full

Altering quotes in here by some has been going on for years

Same as some of the links or what ever they are called that some bung up
I would not trust them either
Rarely read em if ever any way tbh

All them war and peace long waffle (imo) JD bungs up

Never read any of em

I meant actually changing the words.

I think you might mean selecting the most relevant bits, which is very common.

Was it odds that altered quotes the other day? Bet nothing happened to him...

Sorry if it wasn't him (can't remember)

Please :
Sometimes it is difficult.
We try to let go what we can.
I don't know what happened above.
Selection of a few words from a quote is usually okay.
For me, if you deliberately try to change the meaning of what someone wrote so you can have a go at them, then your likely to get barred from that thread either for a day or two or permanently. If you keep doing it you can be barred from several others or from the whole forum including the Combustion Chamber.
Don't be a repeat offender.
Try not to be provocative.

If member A says "you can understand group Fred getting angry at group Bert any way what they can",
And member B replies "member A supports terrorism and mass murder".
Then member B gets their post removed and more if what they accused is particularly nasty.

Do not use "Straw Man" arguments.
Do not make things up like "Member A thinks it's ok to . . . . .." . That is ad-hominem and will be deleted on sight at least.

We don't have time for arguments so I usually don't give a reason. That is what the site owner said to do. It is up to you to read the rules.

Remember we don't see all posts, so use the Report button. We may not read anything for a long time. There can be 10 Reports and it takes half an hour to go through them.
Also sometimes a number of posts have to go so innocent ones in the middle can be lost as well, sorry.
We can see deleted posts and old versions if we look.
Please try to let things go and not be trivial.

Hope that helps.

Both

And selecting a part of a quote and putting there slant on it

I have called it out several times over the years

And have had to resort to putting the person I am responding to name in my response in an attempt to make it more difficult for the fruit cakes to twist it

Standards should be applied unfortunately standards to some in here means they strive to get beneath them

Quote in full or don’t quote at all
That works

I totally disagree.

When done properly, selecting the section you are responding to makes it much easier for everyone to follow. The problem is when people purposely trim the quotes so much that it changes the meaning.
This is true too. See above

@One of the mods. It’s nice to see an explanation. So thanks for that.

The site owner probably needs to get some legal advice and do a bit of reading on hate speech. You should consider updating the rules to make this clear.

There are some high risk long running posts and if it turns out that the posters are moderators or have moderator accounts that is a problem.

It is also important that the real identities of moderators are known to the owner so that he can manage his liabilities.

Has anyone told JohnD?

"Do not make things up like "Member A thinks it's ok to . . . . .." . That is ad-hominem and will be deleted on sight at least".

@Notch7 please note.
