But what if you really disliked white people who got a suntan and became "lobsters". And you ended up using it as an insult. Would it then be racist to call them lobsters. This might be the crux of @motorbiking's argument.
There are many words that can be introduced into a hate filled racist rant. Irrelevant.
Gammon is derogatory word. It is not racist. MBK specifically said it is racist - wrong.

Sorry before hand.....

Would you be happy if someone called a black person a piece of beef?

I know I wouldnt OMG

My own perspective is that I used to think it was just a bit of silly fun. Last year, I made what I thought was a harmless joke on here about the Tory manifesto being "gammon bingo". This was the only time I have ever used the word gammon. I got called racist by several posters and it triggered a big argument, which I now know indirectly led to Bod leaving the forum. Since then, I have been trying to get my head round the whole gammon thing. I go back and forth between thinking it is utterly ridiculous to call it racist. And sometimes seeing that it might possibly be racist, if only somebody could provide a really good explanation.

If your wife called a black man a big hunk of beef, you would have every right to be annoyed

Never call another man a piece of beef or hunk of beef, especially if you are in male only establishments. Unless you are gay of course.

Not "law" then, as I have already said.
Yes Law S17 and S18, Public Order Act. An act of Law, which bit didn't you understand?

Are you suggesting that because plod might not investigate (despite having said they will), a prosecution cannot proceed?
