Looking for recommendations to replace my current very old PIR sensor with a Smart version. I have a new garage for example which does not have the circuit feed from the PIR so currently these do not come on when a a car or person is near the garage. Any recommendations appreciated. Needs to be IP rated ie outdoors.

I've used the Philips Hue external PIR with their hub and lights. It has been reliable but its at the expensive end of the market.

Philips Hue outdoor sensor with Hue compatible bulbs and a Hue hub (zigbee) has proved to be very reliable but pricier than cheaper Wi-Fi stuff

I looked at my shed, placed well to have a light to show route car to house, and had all sorts of ideas. Ended up with a simple smart socket adaptor, and turned it on/off with my phone. Adaptor cost £10.

tbh, I just brought some reolink doorbells on black friday and hooked them up to home assistant to act as pir.

That would drive me up the wall using my phone to turn a light on/off

I've got 4 ceiling pirs indoors to light up the halls and kitchen and bathroom when im moving around

The safety and convenience they add to a house over time is unreal

No user intervention needed. i'd have them any day over all these smart bulbs and switches

I found a PIR turning off outside lights when halfway up the steps, terrible, on steps no idea if I can put stuff down to get phone out, which I need now to do to see my way to the front door.

Only have to turn on with phone, turning off done with voice commands.

The original used a quartz halogen lamp around 300 watt to light the way. Moving to LED also resulted in one lamp being fitted to the shed. 1784128569112.png This would light my way new shed to old shed, the latter now gone, but then corner lights on the house 1784128703316.png

sorry second daylight shot, would light my way either side of the house. Then lights either side of house light our way further, and finally lights at the door allow use to see the key in the lock.

Google home app will allow all 6 lamps to switch on with a single command from phone, and once inside again all can be switched off with a single command.

Only 4 of the 8 outside lights around the house ever had PIR control, only 6 of the 8 are on smart control as it stands, but I only walk up to right of house, I never take the left route.

We would need around 4 PIRs to cover the whole route, and the shed light actually helps on the steps, so to use PIR control it would need to be linked to the smart system, so all lights work together.

And for security, better we don't light up the 4-foot drops, intruders should not be in our back garden, so why should I light the dangers to them?

I know someone who said similar

He had a big machinery yard and he said no lights , makes the stuff easier to steal

I never figured out if he was right or wrong

I am never alerted by lights turning on. Curtains closed, never see outside lights turn on, which happens when daughter visits, as she has access to the Google Home app.

There is an annoying gate light, across the valley, which shines into my bedroom, it is a fair distance away, but still lights up my bedroom, so any light switching on, I would not notice.

On the odd time, we get parcels for house below us, they put them in my garage, but she knows, one phone call and I will turn on outside lights.
