I'm at my step Mum's at the moment and she has just had a smart meter installed with an IHD 3.

She's with Octopus.

The leccy meter shows signs of life, but the gas meter display is blank.

The IHD shows the wrong time and the display is frozen on the same figures and the amber light.

I have tried resetting to no avail.

Any tips please?

Gas meter displays are always blank until a button is pressed.

Failed from new or it's not connected to the electricity meter.
If one of those is really wanted or desired then get a new one from Octopus.
Otherwise unplug it and never look at it again. They are mostly useless.

Bills, pricing, half hourly consumption figures and so on can be obtained via the Octopus website or phone app.

Octopus does a pink thing, not bothered myself as with batteries and solar the IHD is a bit useless, think the pink thing connects to your internet so is faster than the normal smart meter, but not really looked into it.

Octopus is a bit different to the rest, so worth google hunt for what Octopus can do.

Clearly mine does not show gas, as I use oil for central heating, I would not think it will show LPG either.

The IHD3 is brand new.

It is showing a reading for both gas and leccy but it hasn't changed since the smart meter guy set it up.

So much for making sure it was all working before he left.....

Thanks folks.

I can't ring them today, but she will on Monday.

When I wanted a smart meter, it took three visits to fit it. British Gas not Octopus, and then they failed to assign the meter with the second MPAN number, so I was not paid for export, in hindsight should have realised it needed two numbers as you can export to a different company to the one used for import, but they should have known it needed the second number, as soon as I moved to Octopus they identified the problem.

Had ours fitted a few weeks ago.
Advised to wait 2-14 days for the system and data exchange to go live. It took just two days.
As previously suggested, logging on to the account shows the account "status" , data, tariffs etc. Likewise the app.
Our IHD is often hours behind , up to 24 on occasions with some info. Readings seem infrequent and require supplementing with manual reads and uploads.
Get the Accounts API (use website) and get the OctopusWatch subscription app. Which offers a plethora of account data, reportse , comparisons, savings windows.
Switched to their Agile Tariff and already made large £ savings.

Just found out she had it fitted 2 months ago.

I understand there can be a lag or delay. I have the same unit at home.

But her display has been showing the same figures and same amber light all the time it has been powered up.

My IHD from British Gas has never worked properly, they don't seem to be the most reliable things. Mine will show electricity consumption and cost correctly but for Gas it only shows consumption and not cost. Ringing British Gas didn't get it resolved. It is now in a drawer with other useless electronic crap.

At my late mother's house, I wanted to see what the boiler was doing, if it was modulating as it should, so asked for a gas smart meter, I was refused, told could not have one without having an electric smart meter.

Mine has says "Awaiting data, Please see system status" it has done since the day fitted, and unlikely to change, as we don't have gas in the town.

Like the silly info shown by the thermostat for the central heating. 1757843484472.png What is the point, it shows the thermostat turned on for 15 minutes when I tested all worked on Friday, But being switch on does not mean the boiler was running, once hot water returns the boiler turns off. Also, in all 4 thermostats, so boiler can run without Nest calling for heat.

Now Wiser does give some useful info 1757843860194.png and the same with the Kasa TRV head, but so many of these so-called smart devices give rather useless info. And I tried and failed to read the smart meter direct, there are so many windows Smart meter reading 4.jpg and I am sure pressing the buttons in the right order would tell me what is going on, but I want three readings, import peak, import off-peak, and export. What total Act Export is, I have not a clue, is that me exporting to the grid, or grid exporting to me? I can work out what the standing charge is, and read the time, but what is <IND> or Rea or <net> <sum> or Act. No instruction book came with it, so all I can do is read the app on the phone. Even that has stopped working, account in wife's named, and it has logged me out. Not a clue what the password is.

Can you power down the display?
To reset and reconnect to the leccy/gas senders?
I've found customer service excellent at Octopus, quick to resolve issues.

Yup, removed the battery, powered down the mains for a few minutes, then reapplied mains.

I've even done a reset. Nothing changes it. I think it's busted!

Leave it, they take a while before they start to work fully. The gas meter, will need a button to be pressed, to wake the display up. Read the instructions which comes with the meters.

That is correct - The gas meter works, and communicates via the electric meter.
