That's a separate issue from the one that we do have a system where offenders are sentenced to terms in prison, and that when released they are considered to have "paid their debt to society". Surely you've heard that term?

You may not like it, but you must know it's true. Is it another in the seemingly infinite list of truths which you think you can make go away by denying them?

So given that we do release prisoners, and given that the prison staff thought he was being properly released, how do you think they should have treated him?
