When you think about it, it is strange that some random politician can be given a department to head in a sector they maybe have limited experience of, if any!

Yes they have teams of folk and advisers behind the scenes who actually do the work, but even so.

MP Joe Bloggs was originally the Minister for Education before moving to Health and most recently Housing.

yes, our political system seems to be all about choosing people who's real skills are being charismatic (we elect them based on whether we believe them or like them (or at least dislike them less than their opposition)) we should have leaders who know how to do stuff. - Is this why China is doing so well ?

They were talking about exactly this on a news prog the other night. Because politicians are always vying for votes (new or to retain) we get all the guff, the rhetoric, the desire not to directly answer questions, the pivots, the misdirection etc.

Politicians and their parties promise the proverbial earth, get into power and deliver 10% of the promises. Another party gets in, rinse and repeat.

Mind you, when they do try to tell it as it is (didn't Labour sort of attempt this early in their current term? It'll get tougher before it gets easier) they often get feedback from the media and public for being too negative!

Which is why I believe that our adversarial, FPTP system has had its day (if it ever had a day).

ALL politicians agreeing to work together, for the betterment of the country.

For many people it's a case of which liar suits them best!

Because as you say they don't want to hear the truth...

They also want to be continually reassured that it's not their fault - it's someone else to blame...

Anyone 'different' seems to be the go to target as it's much too easy to blame johnny/jane foreigner
