London one of safest cities in the world

The "problem' is that murder, knife crime and other serious crime is so rare in the UK

that trying to understand if it's going up or not is impossible without looking at statistics.
It would be if you run the understanding department.
Normally people don't wait for statistics to have an opinion, they listen to friends, YouTube or Facebook and trust them without checking.
Have you got a statistics APP?
The real problem comes when people are faced with information that challenges their already set opinion. Most of the time they ignore it rather than asking if their opinion was right in the first place. This is true for everyone but even more true for people with lower levels of education (ie no STEM degree).
Your STEM seems to be pointing south.

Yes, try reading Thinking fast and Slow by Khaneman. It's a bit long but very good and doesn't require a strong maths background.

Trump is very unpopular there.
He is despised there. My missus's bezzy at work is seeing a Canadian fellow, and he and his son were over recently. There are some Tumpists over there but they keep quiet about it. So far Trump has cost the US BILLIONS in lost Canadian revenue alone.

The Kennedy Centre send their regards too.

I found London, Ontario to be a mostly quiet, polite town. As you'd expect from Canadians.

Trump is very unpopular there.

Reagan was just spouting worthless nonsense.
Past through it but not enough to reply judge. See on your chart that Toronto was high.

Conservative London Assembly Member Neil Garratt used the first Mayor’s Question Time session of the year to take aim at Sir Sadiq Khan for “gaslighting” Londoners by suggesting the city is safer than it ever has been. Earlier this week Mr Garratt published data showing that knife crime offences had risen from 9,721 in 2015-16 – the last year of Boris Johnson’s time in office – to 16,147 last year.

Sir Sadiq responded by saying the population had risen by over a million since he took office in 2016, while reduced funding under the previous Conservative Government resulted in cuts to police numbers.

Then there must have been a fair proportions of wrong 'uns in that figure that had somehow slipped into the country unchecked. If only we had a way of checking out those who are taxied into this country before they are released into the wild….
