On TV this morning, Rip Off Britain, there was a mention of a scam, operated by a company by the name of SBJ, using the County Court system....

SBJ would issue a claim against a company, or individual, but issue the false claim against them, but at a none existent address. The court papers would not be delivered to the named individual, they would not be aware of the case, so the case goes through undefended. SBJ, then at the last minute, changes the address, to the individuals correct address, to which they send bailiffs to recover goods to the value of. The first the defendant knows about the claim, is when the bailiffs turn up.

Court, police, claim there is not much they can do to put a stop to SBJ's activities, or sort the mess out, which seems daft to me. Surely the court papers must include the plaintiff's name, and a correct address?

The County Court system, are not even able to assess - they are unable to check their records, of how many such cases have been brought by SBJ.

Form N244 to apply to get the judgement set aside.

Trouble was, before the judgment could be set aside, the bailiffs were at the door, in one case, loading up the poor guys van onto a low loader. Then the clocks ticking, before the van is sold. Companies House records, shows the Director is a 17 year old.
