What a load of tools.....

When I lived up country, about 20 years ago, my van was broken into on 3 occasions over about 4 years. By pure luck, on each occasion I was working on a full refurb and most of my tools were left onsite which was reasonably secure so losses from the van were minimal, 100 quid tops. Conversely, a mate parked in B & Q for 15 minutes and his van was emptied, maybe £5k worth of kit, that was by travellers who targeted the area for about a week.
When I moved to Cornwall it wasn't something I worried about (although it did happen to a much much smaller extent). Retired now so not a concern but my heart goes out to anyone who is a victim of tool theft, it is a horrible crime and the affects on the victim are more far reaching than the financial loss.

Its funny I was working next door to a cash converters shop today and in the window was a sthil saw and a sthil chain saw and a stihl leaf blower, I just thought straight away some poor landscapers gear has been robbed.
The government should ban the resale of tools in places like Cash Converters, because of the very high chance they are stolen. Same for a number of car boot sales. Tradesmen never sell their tools.

Tool theft ? Adopt sharia law for the perps ;) Imo
If you can actually be sure of catching them, prosecuting them, and getting a guilty verdict, the severity of the punishment need not be so extreme,

If you can't, the severity is immaterial.

I disagree - if the punishment is basically just a cost of doing business for the criminals, it's not a deterrent.

Posts #5 - #16 show how seriously some people here take it.

Were any of the criminals caught?

I would be the judge and executioner if anyone took my tools and I either caught them at it or caught up with them. I wouldn't bother with the police or courts to deal with them, live by the sword and die by the sword.

I dealt out my own punishment with a scaffold pole when I caught a scrote trying to pinch my scooter. A little tap on the head with a scaffold pole - luckily for him he was wearing a crash helmet. I’d show the video again but it always upsets ellal. He thinks I should have sat them down with tea and biscuits, tried to get to the bottom of why they were trying to take someone else’s property and, if he felt brave enough, given them a bloody good talking to…..

My only criticism would be that you should have taken his helmet off first, for maximum punishment
