I’m planning to turn our study into a utility room. The consumer unit is in this room and I was planning to place the washer reasonably close to it. Is this forbidden by any regulation?
It is still accessible.
I’ve attached a diagram to help.
The main reason for the washer location is that it would back onto the WC sink drain.

Looks like I’ll be moving the washer to the same wall as the CU. Behind the corner of the base unit, the plan is to install the standpipe and supply in the corner unit. Obviously they would’ve covered by the worktop.
Does this still comply with the regs, especially the 300mm distance requirement between CUs and Water Sources.

From the diagram, will the Cu be above the units at high level or (and I hope not) in the cupboard? As access could be difficult when needed

Consumer unit is at eye level. Well mine anyway.
I’ve changed my plan with the units and I will no longer use a corner unit, and just go with a standard 600 wide. Making it a lot easier to reach the CU.
Washer will be under a worktop.

You have obviously given it some sensible thought before just ploughing on regardless.
Good news there is no such regulation to prevent it but I am sure you will be sensible enough to 1/ take steps to reduce the risks of the frequency and extent of condensation and splashes just like you should do in a kitchen or any other area at all and any other risks you might envisage.
Placing the washer etc in a suitable environment or any other appliance or equipment by using a degree of "common sense" (which does appear to be more uncommon than it used to be sometimes for some people - I am pretty sure you are not one of those though.

I am sure that we have all met somebody who is daft enough to put it in the middle of a fishpond at some time ;)

The only thing I do think you need to include is an extractor fan. If BC are involved they will almost certainly be asking you to fit one

I’ve since had a plumber round to discuss routing for the washer feed and waste ( which unfortunately needs to come and go to the toilet ), but we discussed the extractor as I assumed it would be needed based on regs but he was less convinced..

I will speak to the electrician but I’m not that convinced what an extractor will achieved in this room. I’ve had the tumble dryer under the stairs for 2 years and there’s no signs of a lack of ventilation. I expects there’s more moisture in the air from those who cover all their rads with wet clothing…

Ironically we found that 5 years after moving that 3 of 5 extractors in our new build were never connected… looks like they were very effective!
