Bernard Manning Dead.

This topic isn't about racism, or political correctness, it's about a fat, sweaty, unhealthy comic, who, before he died, was unpleasant to anyone and everyone in the pursuit of getting a laugh out of someone.

If you saw his interview by Mrs Merton, and believe it to be honest (i.e. not distorted by editing), then he was capable of unadulterated and humourless unpleasantness at those times when his justification for his 'humour' was challenged in a reasonable way.

None of this means that he wasn't loved by his family, and maybe others, and that he wasn't capable of being pleasant in private.

It just means that in public he was a git, and that now he's a dead git.

You are oppressing those of us who are fat, sweaty, unhealthy gits

I agree with Softus, I won't be dancing on his grave ,even metaphorically, and I'm sorry for his family that he's died, but If he made anyone happy through his form of race hate then I'm sorry for them, for all the people he made happy there's sure to be more that he made unhappy, I'm surprised he hasn't been knighted.

Why is it that those who most support ethnic minorities live far away from the inner cities where ethnic minorities live? Post us that picture of your house and tell us where it is. You know the one I mean in deepest Dorset far from the madding crowd.

Does this wild and unfettered opinion have any basis in fact?

BTW, I'm asking this of everyone except joe-90.

I used to live in an outer-city area mostly populated by first and second-generation Commonwealth immigrants.

I now live in a small town nearly 3 miles from the nearest economically depressed area and 8 miles from the nearest run-down city centre. I am half a mile from the nearest run-down town centre, immigrants here tend to be Chinese or Eastern European. i am5 miles from a seaside resort which recruits a fluid mix of people for seasonal work.

Is that sufficiently "far away?"

Joe, do you live in an ethnically-mixed neigbourhood then? How do you get on with your neighbours?

I lived in West Yorkshire for eight years. There was a large asian population. It sometimes felt as if the whites were in the minority. When our son was born we decided to return to our hometown. That was nine years ago. In that time I've seen the immigrant population here increase but I'm not surrounded by them. I suppose at times I could be considered a racist but I'm also Whitescumyobbothievinglazydruggiescroungingist as well. After all we live in a democracy and I reserve the right to like and dislike who I please.

This is not true Softus, BM simply worked on the pre-PC premise (and a very good one IMO) that a joke is a joke in the same way that a novel is fiction not fact and they should not be taken any other way.

I would cite the Parkinson interviews with Mary Whitehouse and Esther Rantzen as far more credible examples of his quick-witted comedic talents. Watching him destroy those two bastians of do goody PC arse in front of millions of people was a sheer joy.

It just means that in public he was a git, and that now he's a dead git.
Obviously spoken by some ill-informed fool who has never met the man and only knows what he's seen in one or two shows quite late in his career where he was judged guilty even before he appeared.

Speak to the many people who have had the pleasure of watching the man perform his live shows and the lucky ones who have met him and they will all tell you the same thing ... He was a comedy genius on stage and a true gentleman in person.

Why do people on this forum take any notice of this Softus character he appears to be nothing more than a self-opinionated fool.

joe-90, I was hurt by your remark and was going to tell everyone your dirty little secret but I realized it would just be an act of revenge, and I should set a good example of forgiveness, it doesn't say anything in the rules about where you live, I think the mods would have told me if I wasn't allowed a point of view due to my location.
cheers mate

Did he touch a sore point?, and why did you not answer.
I'm no lover of Joe but your where you live and who you socialise with can have a great influence on your point of view.
I speak as one who started at the very bottom and managed to get to the very lower middle of the ladder.
I know my place.

ah joe must be back were managing to steer all the topics back to race and immigration

I think that a post about Bernard Manning would be quiet capable of touching on racism without any help from Joe!
