It was in international waters according to the reported positions. What happened to escorting the trespassing vessel out of our waters?

It wasn't in our waters.
What's the concern then?It was in international waters according to the reported positions.

Not really, they need to brush up on their colregs. The Ruskies did seem a little trigger happy given the yacht changed course in response to the initial warning.

Russian warship fires warning shots near UK-registered yacht in Channel
The retired couple tell BBC Newsnight they tried to show the warship they had changed course in the English Channel before the shots were fired.www.bbc.co.uk
Recounting the incident, Jane Kelvey told BBC Newsnight: "[The warship] gave out five blasts on their horn, which means 'have you seen us?'
"We immediately turned two degrees to port so they could see we had made a deliberate change of course, which meant we had seen them.
"Then a minute or so later they gave another five blasts on their horn, immediately followed by four to five small arms fire.
"That wasn't aimed at us - it was warning fire that went up in the air, we believe."

Every time I've been in this location with foreign war ships, there is an active Sécurité advising a 3 mile exclusion. What's the concern then?
I've spent many years at sea and I know how inept some people are with boats.
Me thinking that perhaps the yacht manoeuvre was not as described.
That is way too close. If I needed to come that close when under sail, I would definitely have radio'd them. These two were apparently under engine, so no excuse not to keep clear.British authorities said they received reports from the yacht's occupants on Tuesday morning that a Russian vessel had fired warning shots from around 500 yards (457m) away - a relatively near distance by the standards of sea travel.

we didn't have the firepower in 1939, but churchill did one of his speeches, and through hard work we pulled it offUK hasn't got the firepower to protect us. Those days have gone.
Him and Adolf would have been bezziesIf only Farrage had been around then, his social media and sound bites would have had Addolf scarpering
I thought that when I heard them say it. 2 degrees would hardly be noticeable, surely?a 2 degree adjustment of course, again this would not be described as a clear indication of a course change. 20 degrees would be more appropriate. 2 degrees could be a small wave.
Nah, the 'gas 'em all, hitler was right' deform fuhrer and adolf would have been great matesIf only Farrage had been around then, his social media and sound bites would have had Addolf scarpering
What was needed was someone with your sharp tongue having a scream up to put Adolf in his place. Anonymously of course in case your name went in the book. You could have shamed him into submission by reporting on his lack of green credentials flying those planes all over the place just to drop a few bombs. On the other hand, you both have a dislike of Jews so you may have got on with him like a house on fire.Nah, the 'gas 'em all, hitler was right' deform fuhrer and adolf would have been great mates![]()

Most people struggle to hold a course to 5 degrees accuracy.I thought that when I heard them say it. 2 degrees would hardly be noticeable, surely?
Isn’t steam supposed to give way to sail? Not really, they need to brush up on their collegs.
5 blasts usually means get out of the f** way, or wtf are you doing. I've never heard any competent person describe it as "have you seen us"
ColRegs Rule 34 (d) When vessels in sight of one another are approaching each other and from any cause either vessel fails to understand the intentions or actions of the other, or is in doubt whether sufficient action is being taken by the other to avoid collision, the vessel in doubt shall immediately indicate such doubt by giving at least five short and rapid blasts on the whistle. Such signal may be supplemented by a light signal of at least five short and rapid flashes.

There is a hierarchy.Isn’t steam supposed to give way to sail?
There is a hierarchy - rule 18. War ships seem to believe they are exempt as they have an operational get out which they tend to apply generously.Isn’t steam supposed to give way to sail?

Our territorial waters extend 12 miles. The ship was in our economic zone, but outside our waters. There shouldn't be any international waters in the English channel, it's too narrow to let all and sundry sail through it.
Britain and France should claim it as a shared resource, limit who can pass through it and charge tolls accordingly.
We might then have a chance of turning back 'the boats' while they are close to the French side.
