A vast sum of money for undisclosed reasons. I'd describe that a s a bribe for some nefarious behaviour.
Let's not forget that his other donor obtained his money (which he donated to Farage) by nefarious behaviour, and narrowly avoided a US prison sentence for it.

Yep, a political astute move. Politically astute does not mean morally correct, legal or acceptable,
Boris was politically astute when he prorogued Parliament, but it was judged to b illegal.
He doesn't need to, Farage does, to avoided a forced by-election.
