Fitting an isolator between meter and consumer unit.

"Second" to what?

I decided I'd like

a) to be able to install a CU with the incoming tails isolated.

b) to have a single point of isolation for the entire installation.
The isolator in the main board is considered to be “main isolation” which isolates the installation

Isolating the supply into the main board is not necessary to achieve main isolation

Unless there is a Henley block.

In my rental agents contract it states a single point of isolation which can be tricky with E7 systems.
 
Well Im not familar with Henley blocks before main boards as i don’t live in the uk

I'm curious as to why you would have them after the CU?


A main switch in a main board provides main isolation as far as I know

CBA to draw this*, but what I have:

Tails from the isolator after the meter go to Henley blocks (actually Lucies, but NM).

They supply:
  1. Switchfuse for garden outbuilding
  2. Mini CU for a light and a socket in the CU cupboard to use if everything else is off
  3. An enclosure with a switch (part of an SPD) through which the supplies into the CU run, via DIN rail distribution blocks in the enclosure
The switch in (3) is the one which will isolate the entire CU. The CU has no "main isolation" function in it, just 3 RCDs and a switch for a non-RCD section, each connected to the distribution blocks in (3).

Without the isolator after the meter I would have nothing which would turn everything off.

If there is no main switch in the enclosure you call a CU then it is a distribution board and not a CU, furthermore IIRC from previous posts threads; it should not be under the control of 'ordinary people' or whatever the official regs term is.

Ah well you didn't inform us of that detail, it's not a facility I've encountered, those I've worked with have been 2 and 4 pole isolation.

Ah well you didn't inform us of that detail, it's not a facility I've encountered, those I've worked with have been 2 and 4 pole isolation.
