Advice on adding two double plugs onto the main ring via a fused spur

We were recently quoted by three electricians £370-£470 for doing this and sadly we don't have the money and it's somewhat urgent (see additional information).

I have spoken to my uncle who used to do a lot of DIY when it comes to electrical work and while I trust him i just wanted to run it by a few more people.

I'd like to run a fused (13a) spur from the main ring, and add two double plugs a few meters between each other. Here is a very amateurish diagram.

The double plugs sit on the wall. The wire from the spur etc will be in conduit/trunking.

Questions:

1: Is it okay to run a single wire from the first (main ring) double socket to the fused amp? I've read it's safe but many prefer to just add the Fuse to the main ring. The wires behind the double plug aren't long enough to stretch to add to the ring. Is daisy chaining okay?

2: Is it okay to daisy chain The cable coming FROM the FCU to the two new double plugs?

3: Does this diagram look okay? I'm not asking for critic on my 'art' lol.

4: Is 2.5 mm² Twin and Earth (6242Y) cable the correct cable to use?


Additional info:

I am not trying to trauma dump just explaining why it's 'urgent' and we can't afford that money. We moved into the house about 2 years ago and my wife became ill. We were told it would take about 2-3 years to recover. Sadly, last week we were told it's terminal and she has about a year left. Maybe 18 months. I've had to give up work and i'm on U.C and £400 is just not possible.
The room these plugs are going in used to be our 'gaming' room but will become her bedroom as it's on the ground floor near a bathroom. Sadly the room has one plug and we need at least three.

I did post this question on reddit and got called a liar and was making up the story for 'attention' or donations (I wasn't) incase anybody feels that way here, here is a previous post i made before we knew she wasn't going to get better. Once again, not trying to trauma dump i just don't want to go through what I did on reddit but explain why we can't afford that at this moment and time is somewhat important.

Sadly these days there are all sorts of reasons why people can't afford to find £40 let alone £400, we all understand that here.

1: Yes it's fine to have a single spur from the ring to the fused connexion unit.
2: Yes that's fine.
3: Nothing wrong with your artwork, it's clear and concise

Are you be going to put any heavy loads on the new sockets. The reason I ask is that if you need to have them available urgently could you not just use ready made extension leads

The plugs will be used for a hospital bed, a hoist type thing which weve been told need to be plugged directly into a wall socket. I wanted an extra double incase anything else came up in the future with the same requirements. Other things like a TV, a laptop, an electric photo frame etcbut that stuff can be put into gangway plugs etc.

Depends on your skill, what I did was to replace the double socket with a grid switch plate, socket, switch and fuse. This did away with the need for a dedicated FCU, but a bit more fiddly to do.

@Murdochcat is correct, any addition should comply with current regulations, whereas what exists only has to comply with what was required at the time. So should be RCD protected, and should be tested and a minor works certificate completed, I think few of us ever do make out minor works for our own home.

My thoughts are why? Some medical devices have no fuse, and use over 13 amp, seem to remember they have a red plug, it does not matter if an extension lead or a FCU, if that's the case, then it needs to be plugged into a ring final direct.

I personally feel it is wrong to draw over 13 amp from a socket, but I know the medical units exist.

The hoist my mother had used nowhere near 13 amps, and was fitted by social services, who also arranged for the supply. So it cost us nothing, the electrician who did the work, also moved a light fitting as it would have fouled the lift.

But since it is a medical device. Step one it to find its rating, as it may need an unfused spur. And it may need heavier gauge cable.

Use 4mm straight to the 2 sockets no fuse required....assuming 32 amp and rcd protection already in place.

400 quid ....cheeky barstuards.

It will be earthed and our board is RCD protected. I'll be honest not sure what the 'bonding' is though?

i think this was my fault. I said we needed it urgently and explained why. I get the feeling that's why the price was so high. The lowest offer said he couldn't do it for another month. Yet they won't let her come home until there's a 'safe' room to return to. At the moment this room only has one double plug and the bed can't be plugged into a gangway plug/extention. So, we're plugging them into this wall plug and using the Spur for other things like TV;s etc.

Tbh, nor do I and nor could my uncle.
When my father had a hospital bed he had the bed, the mattress, his laptop and his TV plugged into the one extension. The O.T which came out yesterday said it NEEDS to be plugged directly into the wall for safety otherwise they wouldn't class the room as 'safe'. Its the only room downstairs she can be in due to size.

From what i've read online (the private hospital type beds) they seem safe to plug into an extension as most only use a 3amp plug and use 300w.

I agree.

I assume it's more of a 'trailing cable' safety thing but our local O.T. and the 2 local medical charities that I've had dealings with also specify the same thing.

To house someone in a care home costs a lot of money, so in the main social services will bend over backwards to get your house suitable for the person to return home, have you asked social services?
