Come across this today, looks like something to adjust a steam engine with - needs a 1½" spanner to tighten on with then I guess you whack it with a sledge hammer

The smaller versions were embossed with the name "footprint" I have one somewhere, think jaw opens to around 2 inches. Also, a crows foot stamped on it, so likely came from war surplus shop in Chester by the canal basin. Got loads of my tools there when I started work.

I think it is an adjustable spanner, Heavy duty for large bolts.

We used to refer to these things as Abingdon adjustable wrenches.......many varieties around, used in locomotive works and steel fabrication.
