What have you been doing today?

On a break at the moment. Replacing the fill valve on my back to the wall WC. Easier said than done. Have to pull the whole thing out to get to the fill valve hide and nut. I have to use an expandable soil pipe and a flexible hose to allow it to be removed and fitted.
Why's you Replacing it? Is it ti do with the banging

Net really, the banging and vibrating noise has gone now that the water board have replaced the street box. It screeches as it’s coming to a stop (been doing that for months) and twice, the blue cap on top has popped off, got jammed on the flush tube so just kept running/flushing. Lifting the lid gives me a jet of water that hits the ceiling! Been noisy filling up for the last 8 years since we did away with the gravity feed and it is now filled directly from the mains. New one is nice and quiet and has a filter/spiral thingy that I’ve fitted inside the brass thread to cope with high mains pressure. Replaced the old one with a Fluidmaster Pro. Just finished it. It was a bit of a b'stard to do - nothing is accessible until you pull it away from the wall so the fill and waste pipes are flexi's.

While I’m in plumbing mode, I’m fitting a dual flush cable valve to the downstairs WC. I have one here that I bought for the upstairs one a few years ago but didn’t need it and I’m only changing that because the original flush valve plastic chrome button is peeling off and I would have had to buy a complete valve anyway just to get the button. That should be easier as I’ve only got to disconnect the feed and remove the cistern. I can get at all those pipes and bolts easily.

Slight F-up on the downstairs WC. I think I cross threaded the nut on the plastic thread fill valve! No matter how tight I did it, it was leaking. I took it off, added an extra 'O' ring and that did the trick. That’s it. All done. Mind you, I’m bathed in sweat now so straight in the shower for me.

Now, Mrs Mottie. How are you paying, cash or kind? ;)

I sincerely hope that Louis Armstrong vanishes from your pipes. Good luck.
Oh he's definitely gone since they replaced the street box containing ours and next doors street stop cocks and meters. Just thought I’d get my arse in gear and change bits in the toilets that I’d been thinking about for a long time before I box my indoor stop cock back in again.

That's beautiful - a 1960s concrete church. Liverpool's Catholic Cathedral is very similar and always has a slightly damp smell. These sorts of buildings were the 'brave new world' I grew up in, everything was massive exposed concrete beams. Shopping centres, blocks of flats, car parks etc.
Polish priest gave me a tour. He told me that stained glass was divided with concrete and not lead.
We have a lot of older churches that are not as beautiful.

It was the front cover for a Chemical Brothers album.

I went to my doctor.
The "Organ Recital" repertoire is so long that I only get to deal with a couple of the chords.
I said upfront there were 4 things I wanted to ask about. She's good. I endeavour to be concise and she is decisive. Previous GPs would have sent me away to make further appointments.
Number 3 on the list
she stood up , had a listen, 3 questions, then said, OK it looks like you have pneumonia. Here's some antibiotics, get an xray and I'll call you when I have the result.
What's number4?

Don't get old, it's a shítty gig.

The stained glass windows in St Andrews in Hornchurch (The Horned Church) has a Ford Fiesta in it, in honour of all those that worked at Fords. Fact!

You dont have to end the sentence with fact.

I believe everything you say.
