Hi

Ok where do I start?

No red lockout but the boiler simply refuses to light. My ch engineer is away for the rest of the week so my appliance engineer and I have been trying in vain.

The fan comes on & we have a spark at the pilot but it wont ignite and can not smell gas there.

Have checked the 'obvious' things such as the gas hasn't been cut off & both the fuses in the pcb are fine.

The pump does not appear to be running although we have removed the silver screw and it appears to rotate freely.

The question is if the pump is shot will the boiler 'know' this and not provide gas to the pilot or are we missing something else?

Any help or ideas greatly appreciated!

AJ

Your boiler does not know about the pump.

Its clearly a fault with the gas supply to the pilot and that will need a competent CORGI to diagnose and fix.

You should not have been opening the combustion chamber!!!

Thanks Tony.

I know we shouldn't but if we listened to all this Govt's dos & don'ts we wouldn't even get put of bed in the morning!

You'll be pleased to know that I have managed to persuade a chap to come tomorrow, hope he turns up.

Well the chap arrived just before 5 for his 3 o'clock appointment, a call may have been nice.

Spends 10 minutes hitting the gas valve with a pair of my pliers which did induce a miniscule 'flame' for a second on the pilot. Blocked pipe he says & tries to remove it with the pliers to no avail. I haven't got the right tools on me so I'll be back same time tomorrow (Friday) he says.

Guess who's still without a working boiler having waited in till 8pm last night?

Get BG out for a fixed price repair. It will cost you £160 but you will know that they will come, diagnose problem and fix for that including any parts that are required.

Thought John Wayne had died.

What a plonker. Any RGI worth his salt would have the pipe off in minutes and blow through with a compressor.

Sounds to me as though it is the gas valve, not the pipe. He obviously doesn't know how to change the gas valve.

You would have stood more chance of the boiler working by hitting him over the head with your pliers

Lots of hidden messages here: "persuade", "chap", "hope".

I have a hunch you picked him out of the phone book.
