pull cord bathroom fan

Have just replaced a bathroom fan,original one was wired to come on with light very annoying when having a bath so replaced it with a pullcord one.Problem is that the fan will come on when light is off

but not when light is on

any idea what might be happening please?I did not fit the original fan.

Sounds like you have connected the new one wrong.

live to live,neutral to neutral,even swapped them over still the same

could it be the connection into the rose,but saying that would the previous one have worked?
Maybe new fan?

Think I will just route it via a junction box on the loop and avoid the rose altogether so no matter weather the light is on or not.
