What size timber/studwork for fake chimney breast

Morning All, I am going to build a fake chimney wall for an electric log burner and for a tv that will be slightly recessed. Just a quick query - what would be the most suitable size of timber to build the frame? It will be fixed to the ceiling, floor and wall. Photo is just an example of...

Can i block up my fireplace?

Hi All, We are decorating our lounge, i have capped off and removed the old gas fire, there is now the hole (see photo). I am building a fake chimney for a tv wall and electric fire, but not sure if i can safely block off/cover the old hole. Not sure if it needs ventilating somehow or filling...

    Hiding radiator pipes in wall

Good Evening all, Hope someone can help please. I am in the beginning stages of redoing our lounge. Originally the radiator pipes were fixed to the skirting board on 2 walls(1 breezeblock), (1 timber frame i think) both plastered. I am putting new skirting back in but think they are really...

Driveway Wall - Over 1 meter high, next to highway?

Hi, This may be a really basic question, looked at my local planning site and they don't allow questions, only submitting of an application - happy to do this but trying to get a better understanding first. My drive currently has a fence and hedges. I am wanting to build a wall, as the road...

    Clip On/Over Tile Trim

Hi there, i'm doing a bit of temporary work in my kitchen, which has chrome tile trims on some of the tiles (see a similar image attached - not mine). Basically, i'm looking for some kind of tile trim cover, or tile trim that would fit over this curved tile trim. Does such a thing exist? I...

What timber for decking ledgers, joists, noggins etc?

right, almost ready to get my purchase on, all measured out etc etc. My question, while many places don't offer this, i can buy 6m lengths of timber, but its expensive.. so i'm not going to and use a default size i can cut where I need myself and join them where required, but what is the...

What timber for decking ledgers, joists, noggins etc?

Any other feedback of the number of support posts? They are the grey ones and i've got about 100 based on that drawing, so in theory that is 100 solid brick/concrete support areas with posts connected to? Have i miss calced or worked it out incorrectly? This is based on one every 1.5M away from...

What timber for decking ledgers, joists, noggins etc?

I've not got much ground clearance between the ground and the underside of my door sills so im possibly limited, the ground is block paving and im going to be putting 1 or 2 bricks underneath the joist depending on the height as my ground is 2 different levels

What timber for decking ledgers, joists, noggins etc?

Sorry if i'm being stupid here, but this is a basic concept, the grey squares are potentially raised blocks which the joists will sit on (this looks way to many), but they are spaced at 1.5 meters away from the house, and 400mm across the house, and the decking boards will span horizontally...

    Very old Anglican door removal

Yeah it seems so, if the end result is its impossible to fix then a new door is inevitable, but we want to at least give it a try first.

    Very old Anglican door removal

Hi All, Posting on behalf of my Dad. He has an aluminium(i think) sliding door, from Anglican probably 30 years ago. The door itself is fine but the runners/rollers are broken. He has contacted Anglican but they obviously don't sell this door anymore and can't track down much information about...
