My warenty has just run out on my Hoover 1600 ultracare washer/dryer. Funds are a bit low and I cant afford to replace machine, it is obvious that the bearings need changing becasuse of the noise when machine spins, but apart from that the machine is still good. Can I replace them myself. Thanks, would aprechiate help.

could also be the concrette weight the springs [iff fitted] or the dampers

could also be a blocked filter causing the machine to try and spin with to much water in

when does it happen and under what conditions!!!

Does the inner drum make a rumbling noise when you turn it by hand.
Does the inner drum move up and down when you put your hand in on the front lip and lift the inner drum.
Remove the rear panel and look to see if you have a brown/rusty stain around the pully wheel where water has been leaking out.

All indications of bearings gone.

hi again, yeah, when the machine spins and when I turn the drum by hand it makes a horrible loud rumbly noise, havnt taken the back of yet but there is some play when i lift the drum. If it is the bearings, can i change them myself easy enough?

You certainly can change them yourself but its an involved job that requires the entire machine to come apart - involving splitting the two drums and removing the bearings from their housings. This can be particularly awkward if the bearings have been shot for some time due to the water getting in.
The choice is yours but personally I'd be heading for a new, cheap washing machine - without the dryer if you can.
John :)

Thank you Burnerman...sounds like I will have to invest in new washer as suggested. How long do you think I can keep the machine going as it is, and what is the worst that will happen to it. As I cannot afford new machine at the moment. Also what cheap make would you reccomend.

Ring Hoover and tell them machine just failed out of warranty

they may do a fixed price repair .

they do £109.00 all in parts labour under 5 years old.

Hi again, no im afraid that wont work cos we already had an extended warenty for 5 years. Thats whats run out...My clever husband was adamant he wasnt going to pay £75 to renew it again, and one week later.....guess what.. is it dangerous to keep the machine running for as long as poss in this condition. Will it seize up and jump across the floor or something.

worse thing will happen is the belt will come off thats it .
