This'll make you laugh...

the temperature of the plate exceeds 60°C

I should hope so, the only thing that one "cooks" at 60 degrees or less is meringue!

To be fair, they don't define what sort of single socket they plug in to... ;)

At under 2Kw (1800W) these can be plugged into any 13A socket and do not require hard wiring or independent supply.

The comment on 60 degs was the temperature at which warning light would be lit not the max temperature of device.

I found best meringue is with white of penguin eggs. Much whiter than chicken still have old licence to collect 100 penguin eggs.

When working away I had a few single rings. Started to use when cup boilers were banned because of fires caused when left switched on out of cup. Not seen for sale for ages!

These were common at one time.

Anyone else can substitute Cadbury's eggs; they don't need a licence and you don't have to go to Antarctica to find them.

I wonder if the license would be valid at the local zoo... take it down and see what happens.. :)

60 degrees referrs to the residual heat indicaton light, this light stays on until the temperature falls below 60 degrees. A safety feature.

Bear in mind pixmania are a French company (and a lot of their stuff is euro imports - which quite annoyed me when ordering stuff from them as I had to get replacement power supplies) - aren't the plugs/sockets over there rated to 16A?

(not an excuse, but plugging in hobs is more common over there)

Yes. I believe in Europe they use gas more often. And the only electric hobs I've seen are 2-ring jobbies in holiday hotels/apartments.

An interesting example of how myths and misinformation are borne.

Nice one Ban.

That there cup boiler thingy were all the rage to take abroad in days of yore, I remember them well.

Mind you a bloke I know who had an unexpected short holiday provided by ER told me of the amazing lengths the "Old Lags" go to to make a brew on the quiet. It made him cringe (and me too)
