Don't understand british gas quote for a new boiler

its not worth white van man getting 1,the only reason bg got one cos in the long run its cheaper than replacing £100+ plates and sxi h-exchangers

i disagree, i believe its actually more expensive to them. the only thing i cant' work out in the equation is the value they put on the sonic engineers labour.

bg use them so they dont have 2 replace the plate h-exchanger....more costly to the company, and then advise to them they need a powerflush.which will solve problem.their not just gonna change a plate every year cos systems full off muck....

they dont have to do that anyway. if the system is full of muck and they have been advised of it nothing gets changed for free.

all of the sales *******s that goes on around a blocked PHE could be done with or without the sonic.

The proccess of a sonic clean is sound but the application is pointless as it isn't financially justified, bg only use them as a demonstration tool to sell scale guards, powerflushes etc.

BG don't cover sludge/scale on their contracts so until sonic clean came along many of these problems were chargeable to fix. Now they do a sonic clean for free and quote for any rectification work necessary (scale reducers/flush etc...) It definatly IS financially justified.

So I beleive :D

How on earth can it be?, an hour of labour is charged out at 78.00 which is about enough to set up and drain and clean the machine after not including the other job the engineer could be doing in that time, cleaning chemicals on sonic clean are 25.00 and not reusable and any main hx bigger than a legless low water content can't be done so all the expensive ones are uncleanable. The cost of a 78 quid rrp pump to bg is 14 as a rough idea of markup so guage your rough dhw hx cost from that to work out how feasable it is.
Correct that bg don't cover sludge and scale, but that is only after the customer has been advised in their own particular circumstance so the sonic clean was introduced as a showy demonstration of bg doing their utmost to sort out a problem which they shouldn't really be doing whilst hardselling a 700 quid flush.

pretty much what ollski said.......i would have just said...

you believe wrong.

sludge isnt covered at bg as long as they have PREVIOUSLY qouted.i.e blocked c-feed u have to clear then quote then any future problems arnt covered, again plate-plate if its blocked and they havent adv flush then u have to change it,these are the jobs that they use sonic clean for,and they aint gonna get a plate-plate for 20 quid either.it must be more cost effective or else they wouldnt do it,all there decisions are based on money and only money :)

I recently had BG quote me for a replacement boiler..... the "best" bit was when they said they needed to use scaffolding to finish off the outside of the new flue, and using scaffolding was a £600 fixed fee....!!!!!!!!!

Whatever happened to a bloke up a ladder...?

Shut up.

And as for the OP BG engineer's do not and cannot quote for a new boiler. They have teams of suited agents to quote. So expect the price to go up by 35%.

er yes, seeing as i work for them i do know that, but thats not what you wrote first time though was it? :)

and its if you have been previously advised, they dont have to quote.

as i said above, i know the price of everything but the value they put on the engs time, and thats not necessarily the quoted price on the system/SIS. i know for fact plenty of jobs are not even close to being cost effective, even if you factor in the upgrades that sometimes get sold on the back off them its not really working out.

an example:
engineer A arrives and spends an average of an hour diagnosing and quotes for or gets sonic raised for free.

sonic bloke turns up. removes H/E(s) and may find out its not dirty just by looking at it, time is wasted, lets say 1-2 hours once the travel (which can be bad with only one machine per patch), replacement of H/E(s), re-diagnosis, re-ordering, and placatement of the customer.

if it is looking dirty he carries on with sonic, anything from 30mins to an hour of fannying with chemical, setting up, using and finally draining and cleaning the machine. then he replaces the H/E(s) and either finds out its worked and all is well or, as is often the case, it hasn't worked. now he has to order the H/E(s) for another day and another 30mins-3 hours depending on the H/E(S) required. customer isnt happy taking another day off work.

the alternative is engineer A does everything from day one, diagnoses, orders H/E(s) and fits them. barring any silly things its all done in two visits, job jobbed. less hassle for customer too as sonic jobs often have to be done days after the original visit and are often cancelled due to double booking.

its a load of nonsense that needs knocking on the head.

I have just had a quote from a BG rep to replace my Vaillant boiler with an eco TEC plus Vaillant condenser one. With all the bells and whistles the quote was for £3995.33 less £270 if I have a government assessment, one thing he did say was that the power flush (£354.59) was a building requirement, is he having a laugh? Never heard of that I thought it was optional

Is a power cleanse a building reg when you have a new boiler fitted?

😳Sorry Dan I didn't think to look back to 4years ago, only joint the site today

The state of some people's houses, it should be compulsory to power flush their carpets before starting work.
