Alarm System Advice

Hi all,

looking for alarm system for home. Ive run all cables in and require panel, pirs, door contacts, 2x kepads (upstairs/downstairs) and bell box.

I'm an electrician and have wired up bog standard cheap alarm systems on jobs but fancy a decent bit of kit for home. I'm not too sure what makes are the best and require some guidance,

I like the look of Texecom Premier systems but the keypads are expensive. Ive also looked at Scantronic and Pyronix and these seem more affordable. I want the downstairs keypad to incorerate a proximity reader.

So basically I'm sfter some advice on the best systems and what i'm getting for my money.

Go for the Texecom Premier (you do get what you pay for) and compared to many are good value for money!

Yep texecom premier is a great panel. It's really versatile ad easy enough to set up.

No idea why the keypads are as expensive as they are, but texecom seem to be one of the few companies that do a flush mount version, and also brass and chrome too which look really good IMO.

Have a look at the Comfort panel by Cytech. It's also a home automation controller once you've set up the logic.

You don't say how many zones you require , but if less than 8 , have a look at the Cascade Avanti comes with a prox RKP as standard, but to be honest , you get more features for the extra money if you go for the Tex Premier.

Don't forget the elite keypads - blue LCD in gunmetal, black, chrome and brass.

Another vote for Texecom, although the user manual that comes with the master panel is enormous compared to many of the cheaper domestic panels, so it can take some time to digest it all. I think I spent more time programming the system than wiring it up!

I would recommend the Scantronic range possibly something like the ION 40 (the new hybrid wired/wireless system. It’s very simple to set up, very user friendly, plug on speech dialer with broadband filters, prox tags and as its part radio you can also use radio keyfobs. It has many new features like the ability to remotely set and unset via an internet device such as a computer/laptop/iphone.

If that does not take your fancy then it’s got to be the Honeywell Galaxy range. G2-20 is the basic model which has built in prox reader on the keypad. If your feeling flash and you have the spare cash to throw into a panel you could opt for the Galaxy Dimension GD-48 with the new Touch centre. Full colour touch screen with many features like the ability to operate basic lighting control and set your own background on the home screen.
