Installation of a LD2 Domestic Fire Alarm System

Hi all, I've been asked to have fitted a Fire Alarm system to an old terraced house we own.

It has to be a Grade D, BS 5839, Part 6 (2004) LD2 system.

It's going in an old 3 bed terrance house. We require 2no. smoke alarms in the cellar, 1no. heat detector in Kitchen, 1no. smoke in Lounge + 2no. smoke in upstairs landing area. Therefore need 5no. smoke + 1no. heat detector in total.

Can anybody provide me with an approx cost for supply + installation of this type of Fire Alarm kit?

Impossible to hazard a guess without seeing the property.
Probably a day's work plus parts. Could be more, could be less.
Depends on accessibility of floors, furniture, cabvle runs, house construction etc etc.

By the way, I assume its a smoke alarm system, not a fire alarm system.
A fire alarm system is a different animal with smash glass larm points, big red bells, etc etc,

Is this for fire regs because the property is let?
If so...
Have they asked for emergency lighting too?

It's a smoke alarm system, standard domestic for a property to be let out. They havn't asked for emergency lighting.

It's supply + fit of 5no. smoke detectors and 1no. heat detectors. Floor boards, carpeting etc are gonna have to be lifted + it'll take a day according to a guy who's been around to quote.

I'm awaiting his quote but wanted to know approx what to expect......am I looking at £300-£500 or more?

I don't know Leeds rates so couldn't comment.
I'd get three quotes.

Make sure that whever does the job will provide a certificate of Design and Commissioning . This is required by BS5839 and the interested party (fire officer?) will want to see it.

Just get the cheapest - when they rip out the floors and ceilings to turn it into a giant cannabis farm they'll disconnect it anyway.

OMG

I have just had the first quotation back for the Grade D LD2 ALarm installation.........the guy said it was 1 day's work in total.

£935 + VAT

Please somebody tell me this is an extortionate price, surely this can't be the going rate? How can the following add upto nearly £1k?

- 1 day's labour for the senior fitter / electrcian
- 1 days labour for a junior
- 5no. smoke alarms
- 1no. heat detector
- Wiring + ducting etc

I was expecting £500 top end?

I had a security alarm fitted 3 yrs ago, it took him all day + he fitted motion sensors, contact sensors, keypad and alarm box ......all for £300.

to be honest we would charge about £740.00 for that type of install.

also i think you will require emergency lighting as well.

can you confirm that its is just a LD2 (5839 part 6) installation, as there is a big difference in the cost!
and type of fitting!

and its a fun job (most of the time)

£740 is alot better than £935 but still way more than I was expecting.

I have been told I need a Grade D, LD2 system to BS5839 Part 6.........no emergency lighting whatsoever. Only 5no. smoke detectors + 1no. heat detectors.

I'll let u know what the other 2 quotes come in at

How can anyone on here give a price without seeing the property. It could be a complete nightmare for all you know hence the original price.

It could be, but I think the point is that if, unseen, and probably assuming no, or "average" hassles, people are estimating £740/£820, the £935 is not necessarily unrealistic, and the "I was expecting £500 top end" is...

Well I'd be going in around for £800 - £900, thats with RF bases & I would include a monoxide interlinked unit with that if required.

Remember thats not including any meb's, if required that'll be extra.
