Got an old Black and Decker drill which has done a good job for me over the years. Unfortunately, I've knackered the charger. Nothing wrong with the drill or battery, though. Instead of buying a new charger for stupid money, thought I'd get myself a new drill which comes with a charger that will allow me to charge my old battery too. As dewalt and B&D are the same mob, thought I'd go for a dewalt in the hope the batteries are compatible. Obviously I'd have to do some digging on the web, but if anyone knows for sure this can't be done I'd appreciate it - would save me a lot of time.

Thanks.

Dont know about the batteries, the newer Dewalts have 15 min charges and the batteries have vented cells to allow for the fast charging, even if they fit I wouldnt expect a standard nicad to last long in a fast charger (this applies to all nicads - not just in tools). If you get a dewalt, I doubt you will ever use your B&D ever again anyway.

just a thought.

i own company A and company B

they supply product X and product Y

each product runs on a rechargeable battery pack that is removable for charging

both battery packs are same voltage (saves me money)

both use same cells to make battery pack (again, saves me money)

because you may know i own company A and company B

i will make battery packs differnt shapes so you cant inter change them, just so you have to buy another of X or Y brand so i make more money

see what I am saying.

I would buy another of the same as you already have to ensure compatability and seeing as you like it (but broke the charger) you will have 2 but only 1 charger that you know will work with either battery since you know they are the same.

but at the end of the day its your money

Your business theory makes sense, Breezer!

Thought the same myself, but then I thought maybe it would be a good idea to offer some compatibility so I stayed loyal to the two brands. After all, better for me to now buy dewalt than Bosch, for example?

I'll get on to dewalt customer support and see what they say - will post back here with the answer.

like i say it didnt work when i treid it practically, the batterires are nearly the same shape but the contacts are different and they didnt work in the charger
