Gas Fire Question.... Not DIY advice

Where would the closure plate circulation vent be located on a conventional radiant wall mounted gas fire.

Images online and in brochures, the vent isn’t visible at all.

However, the Gas Fire fitted at my Father’s House has a huge unsightly hole in the wall under the Fire, which looks terrible?

You'd need to read the installation instructions for a definitive answer on whether your installation is correct. And no, they won't show this kind of thing in marketing pictures, in the same way that boilers and bathrooms are often shown without any pipework!

That hole is known a relief opening and is required for that fire.
That fire would normally sit on a hearth where the opening would not be seen
I wish more householders would use a fire like that as it outputs heat into the room, a similar amount that disappears up the chimney where decorative inset fires are concerned.

There could well be a purpose built relief hole higher up in the closure plate. Depends on manufacturer.

The new fire has replaced the old identical fire, which was also mounted on the wall, so too was the original gas fire.

It was Landlords decision to replace the fire due to fault and installer fitted the new fire higher; because the faulty fire, the closure plate and tape protruded above it and looked untidy, although covered by wall paper.

This circulation vent, although a requirement, looks just as bad, in fact; worse.

There’s no additional relive hole other than the letter box opening in the closure plate

Installation instructions read and state: “To cut off bottom 25mm of closure plate and to cut a new 50x38mm relief opening.”

However, I knew the relief opening/circulation vent was a legislative requirement; just surprised how obtrusive it looks and thought it could of been placed in a less obvious position and out of sight.

I will need to find an alternative solution; as currently, it’s not looking pretty.

So installer fitted it and left gas capped off?Presumably it is a second hand fire too? Never a good idea

No, it’s a brand new fire and although disconnected and capped off within photo; it’s being connected now and an Isolation valve fitted.

RW visa Firegem relief opening is at the bottom. Suppose alternative could be higher up
