What have you been doing today?

Not looking good.

Canaries have netted 2.

That's my shortest job ever....
Very dodgy decision by the ref. He blew the whistle as soon as Stoke made a corner kick. It resulted in a goal.
Punters on the radio say they've not seen that before. The supporters reckoned the first and second goals were offside.

We bought a kettle a few years ago. On the box it was prominently marked as having a 2 year guarantee. It broke after 18 months. The manufacturer refused to replace it. Right at the back of the instruction manual it said the guarantee was only effective if it was registered, and we hadn't done that. Who reads the manual for a kettle! They wouldn't budge and we couldn't be bothered taking it to Trading Standards or court.
Oh well, I might be in for a disappointment on Monday.

The corner kick was passed to a player who whacked it in the net, but by that time, the ref blew the whistle. The goal was disallowed.

Why did he blow the whistle? Half time/Full time? There's an infamous World Cup incident where a Welsh referee blew for full time to deny Brazil a winner from a corner whilst the ball was still in the air. He wasn't asked back.

Going round in circles at the moment. Mrs Mottie was upstairs ironing when there was a loud 'pop' and a scream. The iron had blown up. I looked back and we bought it from Argos in July 2022 and it had a two year guarantee. Problem is…the Argos branch we bought it from closed two weeks ago, they don’t make that model of Phillips iron any more and we don’t have the credit card we used to buy it with. Argos customer care are useless - they told me to 'reach out' to the manufacturer and gave me their number which doesn’t even ring so it’s a dead number. I'm going to have to go up to the Argos counter in our local Sainsbury’s and 'ave it out with someone!

Edit. Found the contact number for the manufacturer but they are not open until Monday.

I wouldn't bother phoning. You need to go to a store to get this ironed out.

You do like to press a point. I’m never board trading your posts. I was told by Mrs Mottie to be polite and to not just steam in.

My posts also have me in creases.

Sat out in sun in afternoon in shorts only on deck at B&B overlooking rolling fields and horses quietly grazing. Spring in full flow, blossom out and alive with bird and insect life. I'm in Lot & Garonne department near town of Fumel. In evening went to a bar for couple of halves (everyone drinks halves here only the hard drinkers drink pints - of pastis!!!), then onto a pub microbrewery with live band on tonight. Couple of old boys on guitars and young woman on drums doing Quo, Stones, Led Zep, Clapton/Cream, Them, ZZ Top, etc, etc, . All beer brewed on site, and combined my love of all things Czech by drinking the Pils made with Czech hops - all the brewing equipment is Czech too. During the proceedings went to get a plate of food from the van outside, and being French it was good quality - not what you would normally expect from a van. Great evening.

Do you speak Czech ?

Do you speak Czech ?

A little bit to get by. Have picked up what I need from many regular visits over the years. Really tough language being Slavic, some similarities to Russian, but the alphabet in Czech is same as us - unlike Russian. Just to complicate things Czechs also have male and female. There's four versions of the number 'one' for a start - Yeden, Yedno, yedna - I forget the fourth. You can write a sentence, then change one word in the sentence and lots of the other words have to change too. French is much nicer, simpler and seems natural. Can usually blag it a bit as many words the same.

French is a beautiful language. Some of the other European languages are a bit harsh.

Do you plan on retirement in the Czech Republic ?

Here they come. The first wave. I chuck some seed down before I go out to walk the dog and some more when I come back. The birds seem to come in waves - pigeons, then starlings, then sparrows with occasional showings of a lone magpie and a robin.

I got up late this morning. They were waiting for me.
