    Double for single connection issues

I want to add a double rad in the place of the existing single, but anticipating the valves will not line up, as the double will (probably) have its tails further from the wall. My pipes inconveniently go into the cavity through plasterboard and they have little wiggle room. Can you get valves...

    Danfoss programmer

Thanks all. Like I said I haven't moved in yet but it had passed me by that as this is a combi based system I would only need to control the heating, which may mean a like for like. (Slaps forehead!) Think I'll move in and try for a few weeks before considering or dismissing a thermostat...

    Danfoss programmer

I haven't moved in yet so have few further details but in principle can I swap a Danfoss programmer with a Drayton without wiring alterations if they both have a 'standard backplate'? Thanks in advance!

    Remove grill from Mason radiator

A teeny whack with a hammer on a bit of wood on the edge of the covering (not rad) may help. Can't see from pic but the bottom tail may have a plastic insert in panel which can either be rotated so the cutout's in the correct place to allow the panel to lift or it may be gently leverable out...

    Thermostat, where for art thou?

I'm staying in a holiday caravan at mo, one year old and it's very nice, but has no thermostast. So I can either turn the boiler off, leave it on all the time or put it on timer. Obvs I can tweak TRVs until blue in the face but it seems a bit wasteful. Thoughts please. Just curious.

    Cost to replace radiators

Didn't you get brackets with the new rads? Even so, £300 per rad still sounds ridiculous.

Rate of increase of room temperature

Think that's an imponderable, eg type of heating, insulation, boiler temp, rad size, type, size of room, property type and so on.

Best way to depaint copper pipes

I had to made some plumbing amends at a friend's place and I needed to remove the paint from the copper pipe before extending the pipework using Speedfit (same would apply for soldered connections, I guess). I scraped, then wire-wooled, even tried a sanding block and pan scrubber. But it took...

    megaflow, twist or stick

I'm no plumber but I'd stick. Never had an issue with pressure, etc, in three years, and this was a 10-year-old unit when I moved in.

How Long to Heat 170 Litre Hot Water Cylinder

Maybe do a timed test. I have an identical tank size and similar system and mine's about 40-45 mins to heat it up. You could easily get a couple of showers out of that one session, but the bath, obvs, is quite wasteful... :(

    Saddo question!

If heating a hot water tank, is it gas-cheaper to run a hotter boiler temp for less time? Just wondered as it seems to take 30+ mins at 60C or 20-25 mins at 70C to create a decent shower temp. Boiler is the unloved Icos HE12.

    Condemned boiler

My daughter lives in a rented property and the engineer who came to service the combi boiler (which is 18 months or so old, a cheapie) has condemned it and turned off the gas. I haven't the report in front of me but I'm told flue fumes were escaping into living room and there's a blockage in the...

    Best decking paint

Any advice on decking paint which lasts and doesn't loosen up/flake off in the rain? Decking was already painted when we bought house, but lifting. Although rubbed down, it doesn't provide such a good key as new decking. Have tried Screwfix No Nonsense decking paint first, then after another...

How on earth do you fit / remove these b*****y things?

Devil's spawn, and often the rad heat makes them brittle. As above, try turning/squeezing them from behind to push them out.

    Cistern continuously filling

Ah, okay. Think it is this valve though, as the water level's increased by 30mm or so.

I don't mind changing it but have I listed the correct replacement?
