How to space these tiles for grouting?

My folks seem to be settling on these tiles for their splashback and window sill, but I'm just wondering about the spacing as the edges are curved. http://www.toppstiles.co.uk/tprod993/zanzibar-ocre-yellow-wall-tile.html Would normal 2mm spacers at each corner be right, with the grout going to...

    Repairing/stretching/cleaning old carpet

Well the lino wasn't cut straight. Now the z bar is in it's a straight line. Along half the carpet is long enough, along the other half it's not. Unfortunately a new carpet isn't an option.

    Confused with cooker hood venting

So I've put my parents in a new integrated cooker hood. The outlet is 120mm in diameter. Most kits seem to come in 125mm. Am I ok using that with a hose clip to clamp it down? Also I need a backdraught shutter. Will a 125mm fit? Is the 125mm the internal diameter, or the external? Thanks

    Repairing/stretching/cleaning old carpet

My folk's carpet must be getting on for 30 years old, and although looking tired in a few places, seems to be doing quite ok. I've just put them in a new kitchen and tiled the kitchen floor. Now because there is a Z-bar part of the carpet is shy of it by about an inch, where as before the lino...

Replacing oven and hob - DIY job?

Ahh ok. Last time I take the dealers word for it. It's still ok to hardwire to the cooker connection unit though?

Replacing oven and hob - DIY job?

Apologies, it definitely is just a cooker switch. Then the 6mm runs down to a 45a cooker connection unit

Replacing oven and hob - DIY job?

I do mean MCB. I never get that right. lol And yes it is a cooker switch, sorry. Excellent, thank you. So I'd put a 3amp fuse in a FCU, or stick with the 13amp? Think a plug might take up too much room as it's all a bit tight. Thanks for your help. Sorry each line isn't responding to each of...

Replacing oven and hob - DIY job?

So I'm putting my parents a new kitchen in. They're doing away with their freestanding cooker for a built under double oven, and a gas hob. The oven they are looking at is a 4.8kw one (with a fuse rating of 32amps) which I know can't be used on a 13amp circuit. There is currently a dedicated...

    Adjusting composite door hinges

Thanks Gaz. So the two hex's top and bottom of the hinges, they just hold the hinge in place? And any idea what the small hex does in between the two adjustables?

    Adjusting composite door hinges

So the first pic is the bottom corner opposite hinge side, see how it's not sitting in properly. Thinking it might be the door needs raising because the draft excluders are getting squashed. Third pic, the top and bottom hex's move the door laterally. The last pic is looking down the top of...

    Adjusting composite door hinges

Fitted a new composite door and really pleased with the installation. It's gone in lovely and plumb. However, the door hinges need some adjustment. I've managed to get an equal gap down each side of the door, but the bottom corner furthest from the hinges doesn't seem to quite sit in enough. It...

Fitting composite door and glazed window

Also, I've seen videos of people fixing the cill to the threshold before installing. Is that the best thing to do? Or just put the cill in place and the door on top, levelling it out as required?

Fitting composite door and glazed window

Thanks Gazman Can you explain what you mean about the concrete fixings being self packing?

Fitting composite door and glazed window

Hi folks, going to be fitting this for my parents soon and wanted to run through some things. I understand it's all about getting it as level as possible and not bending the frame out of shape when fixing. But I'm not sure about fixings. Should I use frame fixings, or just concrete screws? And...

Matching screws with drill bit sizes

Thanks guys. Seems like a hell of a screw. I'm fitting the folks new upvc front door soon so was looking at these. So would you use a 10mm drill bit, or go for something bigger because of the plug?

Downstairs layout, not sure what to do.

The problem with opening up the kitchen and dining room is you lose a wall with cupboards and most of your free worktop space, is that right? Would knocking the wall down and retaining the worktop with cupboards and breakfast bar work? Do you have the room for that?

Yale Wireless HSA6400 isn't truly wireless. Options?

Thanks bernard Are extension leads available for that type of lead? I've tried googling but can't find anything. I'm loathed to put an extension from mains to the plug as it will be unsightly and a trip hazard. Is this the one...

Yale Wireless HSA6400 isn't truly wireless. Options?

I bought this alarm about 15 months ago, and am finally getting round to installing it. I know. Kicking myself for not doing it sooner. It turns out that the control unit needs mains power, and to be connected to the phone line if you want the calling feature. I assumed it was truly wireless...

    Architrave on wonky door frame

I need to put some architrave up inside the bedroom, but the door frame opposite the hinge side of the door is wonky. The door shuts nicely at the bottom side but there is probably an 8-10mm gap at the top side. Taking out that part of the door lining and levelling it isn't an option. Is...
