Gap between bath seal and wall: packing material?

What to use to fill a void between the bath seal and the wall? The gap is large tile width + plaster coat width. When I initially fitted the bath seal I used silicone sealant. But the seal became mouldy over time and now when I come to replace the seal I have a terrible time removing not only...

Mature rose bushes getting out of control

John, If I cut back to 18 inches, that will all be old wood. These are mature bushes. Will I get new growth next year from that? I don't use any fertiliser.

Mature rose bushes getting out of control

For the past few years every October/November I have been hard-pruning my rose bushes. Chopping them back by at least 50%. However, they have put on new growth every year and are now about 10 foot tall and impossible to manage, with long branches. I can't reach the top to deadhead the flowers...

Honeywell motorised valve: manual override switch

Found the other day that I was getting HW but no CH. I was able to get things working by moving the lever on my Honeywell 2-way valve into manual override mode. Just checking that it is OK to leave it like this for a couple of weeks. I will be limited to HW+CH mode only. But that is no hardship...

Storm damage to phone line junction box

Fixed it myself. Just nipped up the ladder, pushed the wiring back into the box and closed the lid.

Storm damage to phone line junction box

I've just remembered. The people who replaced my fascia boards replaced and refitted the junction box. Hope the BT engineer doesn't notice this. It's officially BT property, I think.

Storm damage to phone line junction box

Thanks, Sparky. How long do you reckon they will take to come out and fix this?

Storm damage to phone line junction box

My telephone line comes from a nearby telegraph pole and is attached externally at my roof eaves via a plastic junction box. The junction box has blown open in storm Doris, with wiring spilling out and open to the elements. Phone line is fine, though. Is this something that BT should fix? As I...

Up and over garage door: doesn't stay fully open

Thanks for the replies. Current thinking about a low tech solution. Bang a rubber bung in the channel where the "arms" move up and down.

Up and over garage door: doesn't stay fully open

Wasn't sure which section to put this one in... My up-and-over garage door doesn't stay up in windy weather. The frame isn't quite square and there are gaps at the side. When driving my car into the garage it sometimes slides down a couple of inches. There is a danger of scraping the car roof...

    Damping fridge noise

A jolt when the fridge starts up. Then buzzing for a minute or two, until it switches off. Kitchen has laminate wood flooring. I expect that doesn't help.

    Damping fridge noise

My Zanussi under-counter fridge with small freezer compartment has an acceptable noise level during the day. I have had the fridge about 3 years. It hasn't got louder since new. But as I sleep in the adjacent room to the kitchen, the fridge often wakes me when it switches on during the night...

    Moss treatment: mow lawn first?

I have a lot of moss in my lawn. I plan to try a moss killer product, then rake out the dead moss. Question: My lawn is overdue for it's first cut now. Can I give it a trim now, before proceeding to attack the moss? Or should I go for the moss while the grass is still long?

    Manual 3-way valve problem

No pump in the airing cupboard. On CH only setting, both HW and CH pipes are hot. I don't really want to upgrade to system with room stats etc. I prefer the simple manual system (when it works). I'm surprised that a manual valve would fail.

    Manual 3-way valve problem

Here is the exact 3-way Diverta valve: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251009055766?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649&clk_rvr_id=623787631855&afsrc=1

    Manual 3-way valve problem

Manual valve in airing cupboard is turned to Radiators only. But the water is always very hot, HW tank gets hot. Any ideas? The manual 3-way valve seems to be working OK. Options for 3-way valve are HW, CH+HW, CH It doesn't seem to be a motorised valve, and the spindle works pretty...

Fishing out a dropped brake light bulb

6 inch length of insulation tape. Wrap tightly round a thin screwdriver, leaving half an inch dangling at the bottom. First time, the bulb was hooked and came out.

Fishing out a dropped brake light bulb

Was changing the rear brake light bulb on an 02 Yaris. Bulb dropped into the innards of the rear light cluster. It's rolling around in there. So I went out and bought a magnetic pick up tool, only to find that it has no effect on car light bulbs. They must be made of brass or something. Any...
