    "Warning Notice" from "Boiler Engineer"

In my opinion it does not matter as long as it can be safely isolated from the supply, but I personally prefer a fused spur. In the unlikely event that there are 2 live supplies to the appliance, a dangling plug would make it very easy to shock yourself as the pins would be live!

    Re-conditioning Fans

Hello lads and ladettes (yeah right lol) :o I was wondering if any other engineers have successfully replaced seized fan bearings (when oiling them just is'nt enough!) or when the bearings have failed completely. I hate throwing away a perfectly good fan just because the bearings have gone...

Water steaming hot but water heating not on

could do with more info, but i would assume that switch is for an electric immersion heater -which would explain why the water is hot

Central heating comes on when hot water only selected!

defo the mid position valve (or 2 port valve depending on your system)

Baxi 105e ,that may have a problem or may not ?

no need to replace the full valve, you can buy service kits for the full valve (water section and main body) for less than half the price of a full valve. personally i think whenever you work on a boiler you should either gas rate or take a burner pressure..saying that, you dont need to be a...

    GCH problem with neighbour

simple solution...poo in her letterbox 8)

Potterton Suprima 60 - starts up but then turns off.

Make sure the electrode lead is pushed fully home on both the electrode itself, and the spade connection at the rear of the PCB. This boiler has only one electrode, which is used both for sparking and rectification (flame sensing). A poor connection on either the electrode or spade would allow...

    Boiler Mate

I may be wrong here, but i'm pretty sure Gledhill -the manufacturer of the BoilerMate- have gone bust....it may be difficult to get spares in the future. If the house is only 3 years old I assume it will have something like a boilermate 2000/systemate installed, if this is the case, the pumps...

    Best scale reducer

You've obviously never stuck a magnet to copper pipe to see if its full of sludge :P . Magnetic waves WILL penetrate copper pipe

    broken letterbox!

Richard C, do you by any chance have a crystal ball i could borrow? How silly am i? of course the postman will break my letterbox...i should have seen it coming. Either you're a fat fingered postman with a penchant for breaking letterboxes or you know something i dont. what would be a...

    VAILLANT DIAPHRAGM PUMP

cant think why anyone would go through all of that trouble and expense then try to save a few quid by re-using a diaphragm pump  maybe he just LOVES recycling lol

    broken letterbox!

A fat fingered postman recently damaged my letterbox, the left-hand pin on the top of the 'flap' has cracked through the plastic surround/hinge. I assume I can just buy a new letterbox and slot that in, but was wondering if they are all a standard size? (its a PVC door btw). I am planning to...

What boiler do I need ?

ive got an apollo and im not changing it until it falls off the wall :P small, simple operation and you can repair them with your eyes closed! (dont try this at home). if you really want a new boiler i would recommend a worcester bosch (system, or combi-if you want rid of your tanks and...

BAXI Combi Instant 105e Central Heating Problems

i wouldnt recommend replacing the expansion vessel yourself unless you know what you are doing. as your boiler is an 'instant' the expansion vessel also acts as a small thermal store for the pre-heated hot water. changing the vessel will involve removing the boiler from the wall (disconnecting...

    Fitting extra expansion vessel

splash out and put 1 on the flow and another on the return! :o in theory it should be better on the return but I bet it wont make a difference!

baxi 105e luke warm water when taps on full flow

possibly a scaled up secondary heat exchanger or dodgy/scaled domestic hot water sensor

    Apollo fanfare 30/50 si

yes its made of rubber. it only appears to be ceramic because years of dry heat inside the boiler cause it to go hard and brittle. you can still buy that specific tube but any air pressure tube will do, just make sure its the same length and diameter. worcester supply their air pressure tubes in...
