    Cooker Hood

Wow quite shocked how many responses I got. The fused spur to the left is actually from an old lighting circuit that used to go under the old cupboards. This has been left to open up the opty to have this again. The wiring comes across I understand from the right/left. So in theory they...

    Cooker Hood

Not sure if this is the right place to put this but here goes. Where our old cooker hood was was the ideal situ for our new one. So the socket the old plugged into was left as was the point for a new lighting system. It wasn't until we actually fitted the hood did we realise that the plug...

    size of tiles

This s the point £200 is for non 4" tiles, mosaic and natural stone. The thing is 4" tiles seem to be the standard in tile shops. When I got the quote I assumed 4" were non-standard.

    size of tiles

They have qupted me a day to do the job and finshing the following day. It's a kticehn, in and around cabinets and window-sill and quoted £200 all in (bar tiles) for 4m squared. I had a few quotes and they were marginally the best. Apart from this caveat about 4" tiles. As I say I've...

    size of tiles

I had a quote from a local company and thought nothing of their terms and conditions on their quote until I went hunting for tiles. In their terms and conditions they said that the price would be higher if the customer chose 4" tiles, mosaic and natural stone. Now tilebase and topps tiles sold...

Boxing in pipes in a kitchen

I've still not done this job and have had a few more people advise. Someone suggested a sheet of mdf and then plasterboard fixed to the front and plastered. I am going to use a cabinet to secure one side of the boxing and then batten the other side. CAn I get away with just plasterboard...

Worktop supports attached to the wall

I am coming across stupid I can tell. I will post a photo. Basically we have a waste/soil pipe in one corner of the kitchen and it was either have th unit a little further away from the wall therefore not interfering with the pipe or try and cut the unit round it and lose structural integrity...

Worktop supports attached to the wall

Thanks big-all. Your are right after closer inspection batons would not fit. Howver the kitchen sink unit has had to be a little further from the wall than the rest and a baton would fit, still any point fixing one if I can? I have to fit a baton there anyway so I can fix the bracket to the...

Worktop supports attached to the wall

Boxing in pipes in a kitchen

It's a thought but the end panels are not cheap! We'll see whats left over. I'm not keen on the MDF ideas as it suffers water damage too easily. The birch ply and other idea plasterboard kind of appeals.

    Chimney Blocking

About a year ago I removed a cheap horrible gas fire that then had a single pipe/flue which went up the chimney. I have left the metal front on the fireplace and blocked the hole so we don't get too much of a draught. Moving forward I'd like to establish the best way to block this up. I...

Boxing in pipes in a kitchen

I am completely renovating my kitchen and could do with some advise on which wood to use to box in the waste pipe that is situated in the corner of my kitchen. Previous occupants used some really thin board to bos them in previously but I'd now like to do a good job. The boarding will have to...

    Liquid rubber

The annoying thing is the bitumen felt itself is in good condition just the join between the two overlapping bits wasn't. I've sealed this but then thought why not do liquid rubber over the top and doubly seal it. The mini flat roofs are a pain and the last fitter swore he'd never do one again...

    Liquid rubber

An update, I used roof and gutter sealant to fix the gap which seems to have worked but I would still welcome anybody's views on the Liquid Rubber, I cannot believe I've had 49 views yet not one response lol!

    Liquid rubber

I had our small balcony over our lounge bay leak some years ago and it's bene re-felted. The felt seems in good condition with no noticeable holes or tears in it however with the horrendous weather over the weekend the git has leaked!! I then found that rather than one flush piece of felt...

    kitchen units and painting

Not sure I can find owt on this, I know for standard mdf many say prime but these units are typical mdf units you'd get from MFI that are laminated and I want to paint them all white but although cupboard doors will be easy enough I am worried about the paint not taking to the laminate and also...

    Moving gas pipe

I currently have a gas fitting in one corner of the kitchen, I am guessing it comes in from the understairs cupboard into the wall and has then be put all the way through the wall to the other end of the kitchen where it then appears. We want to move the cooker to the wall at the far end where...
