Advice on how to get onto corner of unsupported roof

Not sure if this is the right forum for this... I have this lean to roof that is polycarbonate sheets. But its leaking in the top right corner, the corner away from the front that I could reach on a ladder. The corner that has no sides for me to reach via a ladder. Its enclosed by walls. See...

How to unblock soil pipe without much access

I think the soil pipe is blocked because all the bathroom drains are all slow and flushing the toilet makes water spurt up into the bath from the drain. I've tried a metal flexible snake thing but that didn't work. Plunging doesn't work. Ideally I could put drain rods down the top of the soil...

Condensation in loft - could it be bathroom extractor pipe not venting?

See attached image. The extractor fan pipe goes into the cavity between walls. Not best photo, the rafter is hiding it going in above the inner wall. I was told this setup is common. But this half of the attic has a soaking roof, it's dripping. You can top of rafters are wet. The other side (I...

Should new loft conversion to regs retain heat well, or will always lose heat fast?

Had a new loft conversion to regs. So it's supposed to have whatever the insulation is supposed to be to conform to regs. Looks like 100mm. It's hard/blocks of foam in walls in eves and looks like wool above ceiling. I can't see the whole ceiling though, only the bottom of it when I'm eves. But...

How to clean plaster off these velux frames without damaging them?

I've had an attic conversion with 6 nice new white velux windows. I think they're wood with white paint. The plasterer has left the attached mess over them. The company say it's not their job to clean - plasterers don't clean. If I find one that does put them in touch. ‍ They said soap and...

Best way to reduce high humidity in house

The humidity in my house is over 70%, and we have condensation on windows all day and moldy. I have been trying my best to get it down but it wont go, and I am confused why its not. I just wondered how best to do it when its now winter, and we are keeping heating off to save money, so house is...

Do I need support purlin for non-tongue groove 18mm chipboard on 40cm centres?

I've had a loft done and the carpenter who laid the floor needed to cut a hole in boards to access bathroom fan. He then put purlins in to support the board when it goes back due to needing to cut out tongue and groove. See first image. I've now had to cut out a similar area elsewhere to...

Dry ridge system membrane not waterproof. Surely rain can get in through the plastic spacers?

New to dry ridge system. Put the plastic bracket/spacer in between tiles, put the clips in. It’s quite a large gap between tiles. I thought surely heavy rain and wind could force water over the edge of the plastic bracket. I thought that’s fine, the “waterproof” membrane then takes it down over...

Are slate nails supposed to come out easy?

I’m slating a front door canopy. I’m not a roofer I’ve not done this before. I’ve nailed some slates in. The merchant sold me aluminium ones (he offered the choice of cheaper copper and something else more expensive too so I went in the middle). I had to remove some slates to move a batten. I...

Concerned this door canopy I am building wont hold my weight, or slate weight long term

I am building the attached door canopy. I need to sit atop it to finish top slates and ridge tiles. But I am concerned about it not being strong enough. I cant stop thinking about it. I am concerned the weight on top will push the rafters outward at the bottom. I am not concerned about it...

Think I’ve messed up the batten spacing

I’ve nailed all my batons down for a door canopy. I’ve been wondering what stops slates wobbling once they are nailed in almost half way down. It looks like the top of the slate is supposed to rest on the next baton up. I don’t know how I missed that when planning it. Mine won’t as the batons...

How to know how much to overlap tiles (so covering the holes), so I can work out how many I need?

I’m quite confused. I can’t find any info about this online… tiles have holes in to screw them to battens. When overlapping tiles the top tile cover those holes on the tile underneath. But all the tiles I looked at online don’t give the dimensions of hole distance from top. So how do I know...

Are gaps between ridge board and rafter normal, after shrinkage?

I built a door canopy. Rafters sat flush on the ridge board when I built it. I screwed the rafters to the ridge board, only one screw. The bottom of the rafters have two larger screws to hold them in place. I’ve boarded the top now, ready for tiles. I noticed the rafters at the top have a gap...

Door canopy roof: do I need battens? Is plywood ok?

I’ve built that attached door canopy. Roof is next but I can’t find much info/help online for such such a roof so wondered if anyone here can help… I thought I’d just plywood or OSB it first then nail slate tiles to that. Would that be ok? or do I need battens to hang the tiles on? If I...

    Pebbledash repair advice

Hi. My 60s house is pebbledashed and we have painted it white. I have a patch on the wall where I removed a door canopy that does not have pebbledash that I want to fill in and paint to match the rest. but I can’t find any plasterer to do it. I have contacted lots of local companies that claim...

Anyone know about this canopy bracket. If it’s connected behind bricks or just straight in

Trying to remove these canopy brackets. From a 1960s house. You can see the bracket goes into the brick in the wall. I assume it was fixed into the wall during construction. same at bottom. It came out about half inch now won’t budge. It wobbles sideways so it should slide out. I’m worried...

Opinions on door canopy angle. Should it match the roof or not matter?

Just after some opinions because I can’t decide. See attached image of my roof angle. It’s about 120 degrees. I’m building an apex door canopy over front door which is centred directly below. I wonder if the door canopy angle should match the roof or if 90 degrees will look ok too. I think...

How to remove the CE mark on wood?

How do you remove the CE mark? Thought a light sand may work but no. If I have to do any more sanding it’ll take a mm or more off surely and I’d have to sand a hell of a lot of surface to match the small area where the CE mark was. Or will staining it hide it? I’m thinking it won’t.

Is the quality of my imprinted concrete “normal”?

I was inspired by a neighbours drive to get an imprinted concrete drive. I chose a company that had really good testimonials and reviews, the highest rated on Google by far, and spoke to another neighbour who used the company and said they are really happy with the work. it’s ended up not...

Any tips for wet imprinted drive after rain?

The installer said when it rains the water will run off as it’s sloping. And it IS sloping, the bulk of water runs off. BUT as it’s relatively flat, and the imprinted concrete and/or sealer has bumps and it’s not smooth, so friction (non slip) you do get LOADS of the small puddles on this drive...
