    Best integrated washer dryer?

I've been thinking about getting one myself - Miele are supposed to be very good. Have a look at this one here. Hellishly expensive (around £1100), but I think maybe worth it in the long run.

    Skim over mould on ceiling?

We have a small amount of black mould on our bathroom ceiling. Now, the ceiling is artexed, so we want to get it skimmed anyway. The question is should we treat/clean off the mould first, or can we just skim over it and then paint with mould-resistant paint? Any thoughts?

Worcester 30si (Bubbleing noises in boiler, no CH or DHW)

Yeah, that's what my boiler people said too. After a cold spell, yesterday got warmer and, lo and behold, the boiler started working fine. Seems that if the condensate drain gets blocked, it stops the boiler working somehow. Will have to get the external part of the drain pipe lagged. A...

Worcester 30si (Bubbleing noises in boiler, no CH or DHW)

That is a big coincidence - I was going to post exactly the same question, as this started happening to my WB 30Si last night too!! The boiler was fitted almost exactly a year ago, by a WB approved installer, so it comes with a 3-year guarantee. My plumber is coming out tomorrow afternoon...

    Very squeaky floorboards

We have a 16 year old house, very standard modern home with chipboard flooring. The floors upstairs creak and crack dreadfully, so I thought the answer might be to screw the flooring to the joists. So, my questions are: 1) Will this work ok? 2) How do I locate where the joists are? Any...

    water softeners in washing machines

Oh I see, my apologies. So, still waiting for an answer. Given that water softeners are cheap enough to put in dishwashers, why not washing machines. Perhaps I should start up some kind of petition.................

    water softeners in washing machines

Well, I thought I did. Hard water contains Calcium and Magnesium ions which help form a soap scum, and requires more detergent to clean your hair/dishes/clothes/whatever. If this hard water is passed through an ion-exchange resin, this will absorb the Calcium and Magnesium ions and swap them...

    water softeners in washing machines

Dishwashers have water softeners in them which are recharged with salt, yes? So, why don't washing machines have them too? Softer water would mean less washing liquid needed, and reduce the need for fabric conditioner too. Any thoughts?

    Rainwater drainage on driveway

When I took the "inspection cover" off, the pipework beneath seemed remarkably clean, and didn't smell at all. This leads me to think that it's not the foul water drain, but is in fact a surface water drain with the wrong cover on.....maybe? Any thoughts?

    Rainwater drainage on driveway

I've got a shared driveway, which mostly slopes down towards a spot which has an "inspection cover". This cover is completely solid and screwed down, so that it is completely sealed, so the rainwater doesn't actually drain into it. Now, this cover is about a foot from the rear corner of the...

Guide to hanging an internal door anyone?

Seriously, I don't mean to put anyone off having a go, it's just that I wasted a lot of time and money on it, and it still wasn't right. I am somewhat of a perfectionist, and sadly my DIY skills measure up only some of the time. Getting the door to fit was fine, but getting it to...

Guide to hanging an internal door anyone?

My advice would be to get a professional to do it. I once spent about 6 hours trying to hang a door properly, and it still wasn't right. I know that this probably reflects upon my DIY skills, and goes against the whole DIY ethos, but I found it to be a real pig of a job. Seroiusly, save...

2000 X Ford Mondeo - noisy suspension driving me crazy!

Thanks for the replies - how easy would this be to DIY if I got hold of the Haynes manual?

2000 X Ford Mondeo - noisy suspension driving me crazy!

My 90,000 mile Mondy makes a light knocking sound, which comes from the front when driving along bumpy or undulating roads. It's done this for a while, but all 3 of the garages that I have taken it to cannot find the problem. I Know that that these models have noisy suspension, but surely...

Economy 7 not needed, but have economy 7 tariff!

We've recently moved house, and changed electricity supplier, and they automatically put us on an Economy 7 tariff. There is no reason for us to be on this tariff, and I would prefer to be on a normal tariff, as the unit price is cheaper. We have an Economy 7 meter installed, so does this...

    gas pipe 15mm to 22mm??

thanks for your replies gents - presumably, this means the whole pipe all the way back to the meter? Sounds like a floorboards up job to me!

    gas pipe 15mm to 22mm??

Getting some quotes in for a combi to replace old Myson Apollo / Gledhill Boilermate combo. One of the installers said something about replacing the 15mm gas pipe with 22mm. Whats that for then?

    Opinions on Halstead boilers?

I see! The price that you quoted for the Eden is significantly less than my installer's price. No matter though, I've decided to go for a Worcester-Bosch anyway. Thanks for everyone's input.

    Opinions on Halstead boilers?

I suppose these things are relative, but just under a £1000 for an Eden CBX doesn't strike me as one of the "cheaper" boilers! The Worcester-Bosch and Vaillant models that I've looked at are around the £950 mark - that's not especially cheap for a condensing combi is it?
