    electric shower

don't do it. Electric showers are rubbish compared to ones heated using the hot water, alhtough these sometimes do have trouble with combi boilers. Just my opinion.

Adding a plug from a light circuit

Find another socket on the ring to spur off, which hasn't had a spur taken from it already or extend the ring. If the lighting circuit is absolutely the only circuit availabe, I suppose you could use a 5 amp round pin socket and plug... but I wouldn't, you'd still risk overloading the circuit...

    Economy Electricity in Bedfordshire

what about dual fuel discount that various providers offer? for example in our house we pay more per unit for gas than the cheapest provider, yet things still work out cheaper on the whole getting our electricity and gas from the same company, than to go with the cheapest gas and electricity...

    Earth leakage and computers

AFAIK the 3mA per computer allowance is because the switch mode power supplies that computers use can have that amount of earth leakage. I'd have thought that the leakage from the monitor would be negligable in comparison.

Recommend me a good aerial and amp / splitter please

If it says log periodic, then you are in quite a strong signal area*. No, you don't need one. Log periodics do have advantages, they're wideband (i.e. cover all of the channels in the UHF TV frequency range), and the main point is better image rejection - that means they're not as susceptible...

    Any Fedora users?

Probably the wrong place to ask, but how do I get Fedora to recognize my first physical hard drive? I have it installed on the second, but I would like to access my Windows 2000 stuff on hda. Doesn't appear in the /mnt directory, or the /media directory, but my DVD, CD-RW and Compactflash...

    "Get off my land"

All land is royal property, all you own is the deeds, which are a promise to the land. So you effecitvely own it, but the government has the right to take it straight off you (although the European Human rights thingy say they have to pay you compensation).

    BS4343

Tougher and more heavy duty, 3 more amps, no fuses in plugs, protected at the CU - this last one is particularly good if they're somewhere that won't be convenient to get to all of the time. Plus I think they're all splashproof. If not all, many are.

    Is Christmas a religious thing?

Whereabouts is this school. About half of schools have nativity plays I think. I used to like nativity plays, except I never got a real part. Certainly I think all schools should have an assembly about such an important thing as Christmas.

    HDTV

I find a lot of programmes are too dark now. Probably the tendence for minimal lighting. On one hand more realistic, but only if in a darkened room. In the days of the good life, they used the old tube cameras, and they used to flood everything with light, only way to get the fine details...

    Is Christmas a religious thing?

I think it is more a british cultural thing in this sense than a religious thing. Yule, Christmas or 'Winterval' - this being a term coined a few years back to describ the celebrations we see in a nonreligious sense. But christmas is fine for most It's a good thing psychologically (okay...

    Measure your own Chav factor!

I'm 56% Chav. I consider myself a little chavvy but only in the non-unintelligent way.

    TV aerial sockets

Maybe they act as a bandpass filter? :? Strange that channel four is weak, its always broadcast with the same power as 1-3.

    Topical - Christmas Lighting

Yeah. You christians will feel the wrath of logic and rational thinking! Seriously though, I hate these OTT outdoor christmas displays. What I got is two illuminated sillhouettes stuck in the windows indoors, and a little christmas tree with some lights on it. That's the only stuff...

    Have you seen this?

And have you noticed the irony? It is from a site with tradesmen moaning about DIYers also, despite supposedly being about self build houses (made entirely out of DIY, then!) Yes, 'tis quite an old thread, we had this one a couple of months ago.

    Compact Flash Cards

What OS are you running? A lot of the adapters for CF cards would seem to be USB 2.0, are you sure you have USB 2.0 ports, and not just 1.1?

where do the gremlins hide it when i need it????

Looking for things with them in your hand? I do that all the time. What is worse is when you confuse the soldering iron with the screwdriver, and pick up the 'screwdriver' by the metal part. Owww :(

    David Blunkett

Hmm... I think Blunkett was generally okay. Most people use their associations wrongly. Yes, its wrong, but I think really making mountains out of molehills. I am quite suspicious that there are others at work, perhaps over his autobiography, I mean he did slag a lot of people off. In one...

    More on Roma folk

yeah kinda... It does need an overhaul, but nobody has the guts to carry it out. Plus people in britain seem averse to change.
