Hi All my daughter has a 10 year old house and the fill valve keeps flowing/filling intermittently, i have taken out the flush valve and cleaned up the washer, that is now performing as it should i do not know what make these are and if the fill valve is actually interchangeable which will safe a lot of grief, the crack on the top part of the flush valve had already been done, (i suspect by the installer, or the person who had the house before her, however this does not affect the flush which works fine, its basically the fill valve with the fill , it could well be the internal diaphragm

Does the water level reach the overflow point ?
If the float valve continuously allows water into the cistern without reaching the overflow then water must be flowing out the cistern into the pan.

The inlet and the flush are separate systems and can be changed independently. Will be the washer/diaphragm on the inlet valve is damaged. Turn water off and reach down turn it anti-clockwise a bit and should come away. Had one similar type to this recently. Couldn't find a replacement washer so just replaced the whole thing with a Viva one.
