Funky - re the electrician, I'm sure he'll be happy for you to do the manual labouring to dig the trench for the cable and to possibly excavate the hot-tub area for an earth mat.

Would it be a single earth rod at the socket position? a few around the front? or would they go all around it as the tub will be going in a corner which is high walled and already slabbed making it difficult to get around it now? Will the eli reading at the new socket determine how many rods I need or is it a case of if you can walk all the way around the tub the earthing needs to go around the tub so ur in the earthing zone, I'm now fearing I've got to lift the slabs up!
