15m delay for lights to come on

Hi,

I have a 6amp mcb, feeding the hall lights, bathroom lights and fan, and the lower hall lighting.

All are running energy saving bulbs, always have.

Now, if you switch the any of the lighting circuits on it can take up to 15 min for them to boot up.

This has never been an issue in the past but over the last 2 weeks it has been getting worse. I have changed some of the bulbs as a precaution but to no avail.

No dimmer switches, no transformers.

Any ideas?

Volt drop. The induction controlled florescent lamp is very dependent on voltage. With HF types not quite so bad but from what I remember you have a large power station on Mon with also a large aluminium plant so likely voltage will vary according to power being produced on the island.

I would look to LED lighting.

But its only common to the 6amp mcb, bedrooms further away don't have this problem.

Should I change all the bulbs to standard to test?

I would agree my late sisters house had a problem with CFL but no problem with tungsten it was in Flint and close to an industrial unit that ran 24/7 and we never found out why but assumed something to do with industrial unit could have been the drives clipping wave form or simple volt drop.

Looked at GU10 LED bulbs I would guess many others the same with a voltage range of 85 to 265 volts hence my comment look at LED.

Could be the magic used by the druids of course!
