Hi,

I need to change an old rusted switch fuse on my property but the cable in side will be about half a m short or less... I have a crimper and some 16mm through crimps (uninsulated) but just wanted to know how to make it safe in the enclosure?

Wrap each crimp in insulation tape then heat shrink over the top?

what is common practice?

Thanks

Why, if you are only replacing the switch fuse does the cable need to be a metre longer?

I suppose you must be putting it in a different place.
If so, is this absolutely necessary?

The new one will not allow the cable to fit back in place as the old one did it only needs extending 7-8inches so thats why i thought to crimp it in the switch fuse

I suppose you can crimp the (nice big stranded) cables if done properly; it just seems a pity.

Do not use 'normal' insulating tape; use self amalgamating tape and heat shrink or two (or more) layers of heat shrink.
The cables will need to be restrained so that the joints are not pulled.

Or you could use a henley block.
