Hi, we moved into a property some months ago.

In the kitchen we have a double gang switch, one does the kiten light the other did nothing.

The stairwell has a light, so I assumed the dead switch muct control the stairs, so I had a play around.

Behind the switch on the stairs and in the kitchen was a wire that was disconnected. consisting of yellow, blue and red.

Now I have spent all afternoon blowing the consumer unit and I have got some light, but i believe it should work differently.

I can leave my bedroom, turn on the light, go downstairs and switch it off. However, anyone else coming down the stairs cannot switch it on until i have turned it on downstairs and switched it off upstairs!

any idea why i am not being able to control both switches independently?

What do you mean by blowing the consumer unit?
What wires do you have in the switch upstairs and how are they connected?

L1 to L1
L2 to L2
C to C

colours do not matter aslong as you connect through as above.

take a look in the wiki.

I would have thought the cable is likely to have been disconnected because it was faulty or damaged?
