2nd. Hand Tyres.

At the front was a Minibus with a woman driver and full of old people... As it slowed down a tyre came off and sped across all the lanes to end up inside the central reservation...
An interesting story, and no doubt related to a discussion about tyres, but as we have no infomation on the tyre, age, history, state of inflasion its doesnt really detract or support the OPs request. We dont even know it was fitted from new or not.

The discription also makes it sound more like the whole wheel parted company rather than just the tyre, as Ive never seen a tyre come off a wheel and carry on over three lanes in such a way, although obvuiously I wasnt there.

I actually thought that it was a whole wheel going across the lanes too.

But my passenger thought it was only the tyre!

It was all over an a second or two and thats not much time to make a good assessment.

Certainly the offside rear wheel of the minibus was rolling on the rim!

I usually buy budget new tyres but I have bought used tyres a few times.

When I do that its when I want at least two and the seller has several of the same size and of a good make which is little used. Often about £30 each for a Pirelli or Dunlop etc fitted and balanced and perhaps 80% unworn. Thats about half price!

I have found them very good value and never had any problem with them. BUT thats probably because they have been carefully selected by me at a place with obvious whole car sets. Either from an acident damageg car or an owner who wants to change his tyres for another rmake or type.

One place I saw specialises in used tyres and gives the German tyre story. I am not convinced its true as scrap yards have to find a sales outlet for their good tyres!
