Four people who were children at the time of the Aberfan disaster recall the moment when a coal waste tip collapsed 60 years ago.

This must have been massive at the time. Strange that my mum never told me about it.. I only learned of the disaster a few years back.

There’s a few Welsh posters on here who will in particular remember it. There were many warnings about the instability of the slag heap which seemed to have gone unnoticed by NCB management

This must have been massive at the time. Strange that my mum never told me about it.. I only learned of the disaster a few years back.

On a sort of related matter, when both of my grandchildren were born, I went out and bought every different newspaper in the shop. I have them safely wrapped and stored in the loft. When they are old enough, they will be able to see what was in the news on the day they were born.

We watched a documentary on it when I was at high school. My Dad worked in wales at the time, that and the threat of nukes really made my childhood
