Is there replacement for this type of bulb.
I have a 60w bulb giving a nice warm glow, would prefer 7w or similar, have thought of spay paint.

i was just thinking spray paint too! that high temp stuff they make for radiators or similar.

BUT

if your fire is the type that has a metal spinner above the lamp to create a moving flame effect, you cannot use a low energy bulb, or else this spinner will not work. The heat from the lamp makes it spin, and low energy lamps dont make enough heat. :!:

Try:

Though the colour rendition of my montior is not fantastic, I'd have said it wont give the same colour as a clear red filament lamp. More pinky.

Have'nt those things got a non standard bayonet cap?
no. i have two in the olde electric fire in the lounge. The metal spinners dont turn anymore. And I tried a normal lamp in it (curiosity) and it worked ok.

The bulb I have is up the chimney, I have a log effect GAS fire, that does not get used.
When the light is on it looks v nice, her at home likes it on, its such a waste

Some of them do (3 pin), some just have the usual 2 pin.
The 3 pin ones are the same fitting as those silly low energy lamps that MEM used to make (perhaps they still do?).

On the fires with 3 pin sockets, its cheaper for the customer to replace them with normal 2 pin sockets, so they don't have to search dozens of shops and pay several pounds for each new lamp.

Has any one considered fitting a cheap solar powered fan below the bulb to to make spinners go round?
